I understood what you meant.  The second furthest tees at my home course play to 6600, and that is pretty long for a casual golfer.

Several have tried. None have ever made a cut.

Edit: I should say, none have made the cut since Zaharias in the 40's. But I think the sheer number of quality golfers now compared to 70 years ago makes that a fluke.

As long as you're willing to admit that. Don't do it again...

I accept the strength issue to a point but still don't see why a woman who can average 270 can't play with the men. Look, I'm 5ft7 and 147lbs and play a course which is 7100yds and I'm off 3. So how do you reconcile that? I don't even have a great short game, it's good but it's not what gets me round. My asset is that I'm not wild off the tee and rarely get in trouble. I average 260yds with a driver. Surely there has to be a woman who could play a schedule on tour that they could compete on? Fred Funk did it for quite a few years. Maybe the real reason is that they actually don't want to be the only woman amongst 150 blokes every week? It may be a lonely existence.

I know. But to my knowledge it's only been tried once or twice. I am just saying that there are a lot of men out there who make a living playing golf and every tournament they join they are likely to not make the cut. I believe that it is possible for a top female golfer to do the same. They are never going to be a favorite to win or even do very well, but they could play PGA tour level golf.

The top women on the LPGA tour would eat your lunch, not to mention the PGA guys. There's a lot more to it than just total driver distance. Read the thread where we talk about carry distance, spin, etc.

A few months ago we got paired up with a young lady that plays on the CUBuffs team. She played from the same tees we did 6448 70.6/134 and she shot a 78. It was her, her BF, me and my step-dad. She was the long drive on more than one hole. I think I shot an 87 that day and it was like we weren't even playing the same game.

That and the fact that they could play the women's and make more money and have a shot at winning. Plus they wouldn't be viewed as a side show act and have an immense amount of pressure on them because they are a women playing with men.

I told myself I wouldn't touch this one because I'm sure to get burned by a Googler who posts stats to rebuke me.  So I'm going on personal experience.

Anyway- remember you still have a considerably greater amount of muscle mass than a 150lb woman.  They have more fat on their thighs, butt, and chest, etc. (This is a good thing for us).  (And I'm sure someone will post a picture of a jacked female golfer to deny my claim).  Plus they carry a considerable amount of water between their fat and skin.  Again, sexy for us, not so sexy for their distance, endurance, etc.

A 150 woman who is in good shape may have 15-20% body fat whereas a slender guy like yourself has much less fat, maybe 10%.  Plus women carry much more water in their system which adds to their weight but not to their muscle mass.  You can't judge strength by weight alone.  If a woman's body fat falls below 12% her hormones get screwed up.  Hormones, another reason they aren't as good over four days...

Anyways I am not a nutritionist or anything but I have been around a weight room or two and I would expect that an athletic girl the same weight as an athletic guy has less than half of his strength.

OF course, this is not to say that I could even come close to beating a LPGA or even good female college player playing from the same tees.

It's more than just the distance. The PGA course set up is more difficult. IMO the greens would pose the biggest challenge for them.

I can hit it further than her at 5'9, 160. A 6 ft 180 lb woman isn't gonna generate the same clubhead speed as a PGA guy.

    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.

    • Yes, because you have lifted to like 120° without bending the left elbow. So when you turn and the left elbow bends… it bends in such a way that you then lower your left humerus and pull the club around you.
