This time its to do with the driver.

Im very inconsistent with my driver because i dont really like using it,

The pro i have lessons with said i should be getting around 270 carry driver and around 240 with a 3 wood but on my 3 wood fitting my carry distance 255 on avg was higher than expected so i have upscaled my carry distance by 15 yards. I think my carry distance with my driver should be around 285 carry because i know i can hit it when i really connect with the ball.

I was a 10.5 callaway  x hot stiff and it was ballooning up in the air like going into orbit and on the screen the flight was going off the screen in height and then dropping back down.

My launch angles were similar to my 3 wood ones so around 17-20

He also told me that my spin was ridiculous it was ranging from anywhere from 5000-7000

my swing speed was also measured and its around 110-115 on average

ball speed was faster than my 3 wood was told at the time it was past 165

He recommended that based on the numbers i lower the degree on my driver in the future and he also said i should consider thinking about an x-stiff shaft

Was wondering whether anyone can shed some light on the numbers and also give some info on x-stiff shaft im wary of getting fitted for all this new stuff because ive been told by the fitter it can get very expense. I have booked a lesson for tomorrow and i will be using my driver the lesson to see what i can improve on.

Lower the degree and x-stiff shaft will do it.

    • Wins the week before and files for divorce the same week. I’m not putting money on Rory.
    • Partial to the Golf Pride CP2 Pro.  Softer than a Tour Velvet and pretty durable (I play 5 times a week and they last a year or more with no issues).
    • Tiger Wood's Driver Clinic Got this on Twitter. Which then I found the video above.  Tiger asking Rory to hit that control cut. Rory talks a bit about how he likes to stand taller, so he doesn't feel like he can shallow it with the body. Tiger puts it in his words, staying on top of the ball. Which I presume for Tiger his feel for a cut. Even the PGA Tour players have their own ways to achieve similar shots and describe it with their own swing thoughts (feels). Good insight in how PGA Tour player's develop swing feels to produce the shot they want. Could be something as simple as a posture change.
    • Awesome, thank you very much for chiming in and for explaining. I will give it a try today. I was chipping in my back yard with my new irons and had a huge smile on my face from just how well they were performing, feeling and sounding compared to the old 70's blades I was playing. I look forward to giving your drill a shot!
    • It’s to get a feel for the sensation of hitting the ball on the center of the club face and for hitting the ball straight.  Golf is, my opinion, about hitting the center of the club face.  A ball struck in the center of the face with a squared to the target club face is, again my opinion, the most important aspect of golf.  It provides a feel like nothing else in golf.  Swinging hard and striking the ball off the toe or heel of the club when you’re new to the game results in bad feeling shots that erode your confidence.  Hitting fifty half-swing shots and nothing else at the range lets you get back in the car and sleep on a satisfying session.  Remember, in order to play well, you must be confident.  In order to be confident, you must play well 😎.  Good luck.
