So after golfing yesterday and going to the range tonight i am putting away my 735's and going to use my TaylorMade r7 irons for the rest of the season, to see how it goes with these...

the crazy thing is when i am on the Range and just hitting balls, I hit the Titleist's pretty good... but when actually playing it's like durrrrrrrr     and i just cant seem to hit them very consistently....

I mean it could just be me, but i have to do something to improve my game... And if I hit the R7's more consistent when it's game time, then so be it...

What has pride have to do with it?  If the R-7's work for you, then  that's what you should do. The fact that you can or can not hit the Titleist is immaterial.

The R7s are more forgiving than the 735s so when the pressure is on they are probably a better fit for your game. There is no shame in playing what works.

TourSpoon,

yea it just kind of sucks, cuz when I am hitting the 735's good its like you hardly even feel the ball hitting the irons...  And i feel very confident in my swing... but if it goes down the crapper, then i feel like a newb trying to hit blades...

but i'll keep a update on how it goes with the R7's

The sweet spot on the 735s is not the biggest nor is it the smallest. If you tend to hit towards the toe they will let you know.

I'll go one step further.......there is shame in playing something that doesn't work.

Kudos for doing what makes sense for you at this point in time!

You can use the 735s at the range to groove your swing and play the R7s on the course. Just be aware of different distance each set hits so you don't airmail greens or leave it short when on the course.

Dave40,

I was thinking of that, I've even thought of changing out the shafts..  Cuz I know the R7's are extremely light compared to the Titleists.   Not sure if that is from the shaft or from the club heads or both..

TourSpoon,

yea i know what you mean about hitting them on the toe.. usually thats when i get my lovely fade !!    But when i was hitting them good, I was actually getting a nice lil draw on the ball.. nothing major but it was noticeable..

Ok guys..... lol

So after not hitting some balls since my last post.. I went out tuesday night and brought my 735s and R7s with me to the range..   And did a lil side by side comparison...

Well after hitting chilly dippers for about the first 5 to 8 balls with both the r7 and 735  8iron lol.... i finally started hitting the ball good..

So today I went out and brought my 735s and brought my R7  9iron, 7 and 5iron..  And while I probably hit the R7 about 10 yards farther...  I felt like when i really got into a groove and was hitting the ball good, I was hitting my 735s a lot better.   And straighter too..

I can honestly say that I feel like i hit my 735s a whole lot better and more consistent than the R7s..  Idk if its because I am not trying to kill the ball all the time, and I am just trying to hit the ball solid and straight...   I feel like when i am using my R7s that I know i dont have to be perfect, and i can just swing out of my ass...  That and the weight difference between the R7's and 735s are not even close.. the 735s are a lot heavier..  So i somewhat feel like i have more control in my swing,, could just be a mental thing idk...

So as of now i am sticking with my 735s through thick and thin, love and hate.... for better for worse!!!!

    • They sure do. 158 with an 8 iron is on the high end for me
    • Went back to controlling my knees. That part was getting a bit sloppy when I worked on my backswing. Right hip didn't slide or gain internal rotation. I would just rotate back and around and the left knee would be in a bad spot. Really focusing now on keeping my left knee very stable and straighter in the backswing. I can't go back to the old pattern of overturning the hips. I was returning to my old pattern to time my downswing. Turn forever.  Left knee controls both knees and hips, acting as an anchor. Feel like it straightens a bit.   Hinge sooner and faster. Not in a way that sends the hands out and flips the club over. I still noticed when the hands get to A2.5, the hands would want to flip over and flatten the club out a ton.  Still trying to figure out how to roll the forearms a bit open and not just roll the club inside a ton.  Figure out the timing to get the hands down. Still getting a bit of right elbow collapsing in the downswing because the arms are too high when I turn. Everything is happening sooner now. If the hips are controlled, the backswing is shortened. Because it is shortened I don't know when to get the hands down and I just turn because the downswing is a go.  Very slow (50%) swings are decent.
    • Distances look fine, no?
    • Day 207-12 Wider backswing and arm reconnecting in downswing. Did a much better job with proper wrist movements through downswing today.
