For the last year, I've been playing a G20 with a TFC169 D Tour Stiff.  For fun, I picked up a Nike VR Tour with a Project X 6.0.  Took both clubs to the range last night and noticed a big difference.  With the Project X, I could feel the shaft bending on the downswing and then kicking through impact.  I was hitting some bombs.  With the TFC, I didn't feel much if any of that whip-release through the ball.  Felt more like a bat hitting a baseball than a flexible stick transferring energy.

I think the shafts are relatively similar, more alike than different, spec-wise.  So, can anyone help me understand what property of the Project X might allow me to flex it like that?  I do like that feeling, though I've only had one range session so I can't say if it's playable.  Ball flights with each were straight enough for me though.

As much as it means, the TFC is 63g with 3.9 degrees of torque.  The Project X is 66g with 3.3 degrees.

I'll probably play the Nike for a while, but I'd like to understand what exactly it is I like about this shaft for future purchases.

Thanks.

That's surprising that the PX shaft felt "whippy" with an active kick point given that it's heavier and stiffer than your current shaft.

Those two heads are very different too...Swingweight could have been better suited to your swing?

I do agree with you though...I hate stiff shafts that have a "dead" feeling to them.

So then what do you feel from a shaft that's a tad to "whippy" compared to one that has just enough loading..?

For me, I can't really tell if a shaft is loading up, compared to one that hits like a broom stick. I can tell when a shaft is to whippy though, and for me, most reg/firm shafts feel some what whippy, if that explains it..lol

    • That’s totally fair. I have my chipping issues which make my putter more playable in that situation. Really just confirming that while not optimal there comes a point where if you need to use a putter (for whatever reason) then the optimal mechanics breaks down. I know I’m a sample of one. 😂
    • Day 329 - 2025-08-26 Hit 24 balls before lessons and JEP Summer Session. With the MP-33. 🙂 Put an undersized grip on my VR Pro accidentally.
    • Well, that's not really a putt at that point. You could easily choose to putt that up the slope with a hybrid or something.
    • Day 15 (August 26).  I missed practice yesterday, but otherwise had a 14-day streak going into it.  Somehow, some of my posts for this appear in my profile but I can't seem to see them (I hope I didn't break any rules that would cause them to be removed).  I am hoping I'll be able to keep doing some practice while I'm out to regain the red text.  Context:  am on vacation, this week with friends.  What was today's actual practice? Today, a friend and I decided to go to TopGolf;  it was kind of like being at the range with someone else's clubs.  And that's ultimately how I was able to use it for practice:  I don't practice choosing a target, lining up to it, and then hitting often enough;  that's what this place seems to be about.  In any case, we were there for 90 minutes, I was hitting for maybe 35-40 minutes of that time, and I did pick a target each time.
    • Day 2 - (26 Aug 25) - Church men’s golf nine hole Captains choice.  Had grandson as part of our group - was a blast watching him drill the putts.  Love these no pressure sessions - great for going outside the norm on club selection.
