Question for the group -- my buddy and I plan to pickup some practice round tickets for this year's Masters. As I'm looking on StubHub & Ebay, Monday prices range from $500 to almost $900. The tickets have different "sections" or "rows" as follows:

General Admission

Grounds

Full Day

Anyone have an idea on the difference, if any, between these tickets? We just don't want to show up and find out our tickets have limited access to the course. Considering the variation in price, it seems like something is going on, or it's just the sellers trying to dump them at aggressive prices? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd be VERY careful. The only way to legally get practice round tickets is via the annual lottery. Scalping/reselling is strictly prohibited, though it obviously happens. Masters tickets are also often counterfeited and tournament security is very good at determining the real from the fake. Having said that, all practice round tickets are full day, general admission tickets that will allow access to all areas of the course except, of course, the clubhouse.

I think Stubhub is OK, as they guarantee their tickets.  My son won 3 tickets to last year's Wednesday practice round in the lottery.  We used 2 and he sold 1 on Stubhub.  No problem.

I could be wrong, but I believe you can buy Masters tickets in Augusta, but you must be at least 500 feet or so from any entrance.  At least that's what I read somewhere.

Thanks for the help! My biggest concern was around what type of ticket I'm buying as it relates to GA, Grounds, Full Day, etc. I think I will feel pretty comfortable with StubHub. They are a reputable internet broker and I think they may even have a tent setup near the course for tournament days. I will dig around a bit more but this was helpful.

I think GA state law is 2,700 feet from the entrance of the sporting event. I found this article that talks about arrests made in 2012 due to scalping and reselling tickets.

    • Interesting changes. The idea of relegation and promotion have always been there in a different form (getting and losing your card etc and qualifying for bigger events) but it looks like they want to define it better for top tier events. The Tour has always had A and B level events (and even lower). It will be interesting what they choose as the Challenger Series events and whether some tournaments go to the Challenger Series that used to be prestigious. Not sure how the networks will take to this knowing they have “Challenger” Series events defined that way now. Also, I’m not happy that John Henry and Theo Epstein are involved. Look what Henry has done to the Red Sox.
