If anyone on this forum uses a Skycaddie I have a question for you. Ever since august 1st my SG2 does not receive the SBAS system signal.

I know of 3 SG2's In Pensacola Fl that do not receive the signal anymore and one in Houston Texas. My guess is that the SBAS system has been shut down for repairs or upgrades.

I have tried to get the Skygolf company to confirm that there is an issue with the SBAS system but they refuse to give me any feedback on this issue after several emails and 2 phone calls.

It would be fairly easy for them to just step outside and turn one of their units on and within minutes they could varify the issue as a problem or not.

Any responses will be appreciated Thanks

Yes I have reset it several times.

I am not sure what is happening here but 3 SG2's in Pensacola FL, one in Houston Texas and one in missouri do not pick up the SBAS signal and only get 2 GPS bars on the main screen. When you are receiving the correction factor you will pick up 5 to 6 bars.

Are you picking up more than 2 bars?

Yes I have reset it several times.

Add another Missouri skycaddie that is not working. I'm lucky to get any bars. I get a signal and then lose it over and over. I have a Garmin GPS for backpacking. I'll try it tonight.

Well you fellows that are claiming to have Skycaddies that are working great ---none of you are telling me how many bars you are picking up.

My Skycaddie is working great also ---but is only picking up 2 bars. two bars will give you a great working Skycaddie but you will not be receiving the SBAS signal. Two bars will only give you 7 GPS satellites which is great for hunting and finding sunken ships in the ocean but the accuracy of GPS signals alone is about 10 yards ----not good enough for golf.

You must receive the SBAS signals to be able to get your best accuracy with the Skycaddie --no matter which model you have.

When you are receiving the SBAS signals you will always have more than 2 bars ---usually 5 or 6 bars will be showing.

Check your manual and read aboout SBAS and look at the diagrams that show SBAS signal reception.

So just a general comment that your Skycaddie is working grest is no help to me at all. I need to know how many bars you are getting.

Thanks guys --your help here would be greatly appreciated.

Well...you have your responses. If the responses you are getting are not what you were looking for then I would suggest being a bit more clear on what you would like. Anyways, Im getting anywhere from 4 to MAX bars. Never below that. Good luck and hope you get it figured out. I dont know what I would do if my skycaddie quit on me.....It has become my evil, dependent golf crutch.

I now have a count of 11 SG2's scattered over the eastern US that cannot receive the SBAS signal ---each one can only receive 2 signal bars.

It had been about 10 days since I last used my skycaddie. Fired it up last night and got 3 bars and the "+". Put it on the dash today for the drive to work and had 3-4 bars and the "+" all the way in to work ( 40 mile drive ). Looks like the issues I was having a couple weeks ago are gone. BTW, I did reset the GPS last night.

Glad you are getting more bars.

I talked to a friend yesterday and he is not picking up but 2 bars and has been that way all month (as has mine) and he knows 4 other people who are having the same problem. One is the Pro at his home course.

Mine is no better today.

I had a similar problem (2 bars and no SBAS). My Skycaddie was still under extended warranty so I sent it in for repair. Upcon return, it is back to 4 or 5 bars and SBAS working again. I put it side-by-side with my father's SG2 which is also getting 2 bars and no SBAS. The number and strength of satellites received was amazingly different. I don't know what they did to it but it is much better now.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
