I went out on Sunday, yes there was a thread about it and a little kerfuffle, but one guy I played with is pretty good, compared to me, probably a bogey golfer who gets his share of pars. He said I was swinging too hard, and when I got back, I noticed I had a blister on my finger. So here is my plan for practicing around the yard, I have four acres, so I have room:

Swing easy and concentrate on good contact and getting that pretty sound of hitting the ball first and that pretty flight, and ignore distance completely. Don't even think about it. Just trust that when I start getting consistent contact I will start getting consistent distance. Think about weight shift so I get my swing bottom right, thinking about getting the swing bottom in front of the ball, think about keeping my head still and my grip pressure and staying on the balls of my feet, but whatever I do, don't think about distance.

Does this seem like a practical approach? If I could stop hitting so many fat and thin, my chipping and putting is not bad, I usually can two putt, I think my score would drop a lot. My iron play is just abysmal. I hit different distances on the range than on the course. I take too much club because I think I am going to hit it short and end up sailing over the green, or what I think is the right amount of club, if I were on the range, and it just comes up short. I think this is all due to inconsistent contact.

Any ideas? Maybe this weekend I will post a swing.

Maybe get some lesson and allocate some consistent practice time?  Two things I see.

1. You are getting blisters.  This tells me you are indeed swinging, grabbing way too hard.

2. You have no depth concept of distance.  This tells me you need more practice with irons.  It's not just contact, swinging loose.  It's combinations of all contributes.  Take at least 1 hour practice 4-5 times per week for about a couple months.  Don't go out to course during that time because your old instincts will take over.
