And i have no intention of hanging up the clubs! My plan for summer 08 is to get down to a 5 HCDP. And i think its very possible, i just have to sort out my Driver as it is a massive weakpoint in my game! I rarely use it as currently in practice i hit 1/10 good so i just leave it on the course.

But, what do you guys do in the winter? In the UK when the clocks go back, its usually pretty dark around 5. So, playing weekend mornings is going to have to fill my addition untill Feb.

Of course, i will have days off to go and play, but currently playing 2-3 times a week and the range maybe once a week too.

Would it be worth joining a club? After playing some of the top clubs in Wales, playing on local public courses is just no fun.

A) Slow play
B) Conitions, some are nice but the greens are nothing compared to proper golf clubs where membership is required
C) Winter weekends the publics are crammed full of players, most not so good so delays expect....

It's pretty hard for me to think about "winter approaching" -- today's high is forecast to be 90 degrees here & the winter solstice is more than 3.5 months away.

Im not too bothered about the weather, its just the light! But, good news is getting a corporate membership through the company. So thats saves money and hassle!

Dont see many refer to winter as "winter solstice" i take it you have read into the Mayans etc?

Unless there is snow on the ground I'm going to be out there playing.
When It gets real cold make sure to let your clubs adjust to the temperature. Once I saw a guy crack the head a driver he was demoing. It only lasted five shots

No cold weather will stop me, I'll be out there just putting on a sweater, and then going out again, I think it would be worth you joining a club for less delays and more time on the course.

Winter!?!? Argh! Someone delete this thread!

I'm hoping it's mild here in October, November and December like it was last year. I played into December last year which is pretty rare for around here. Heck, I know guys who played in January. We had a very mild January and golf courses reopened for a week or so. Anyways... I'm going to stop thinking about winter now

My course closes the 1st week of October.
There's snow on the ground by Halloween

I played 45 holes yesterday - got to get it all in.

If the course was open all year, I'd play it.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
