What type of Grip to Buy

5 posts in this topic

I just purchased the new TaylorMade Speedblade irons today and was thinking about replacing the grips. What are the things I should consider for buying new grips? What are ones that people recommend? I had the Winn Grip Dri-Tac Lite midsize on my last set of irons but read that it might not allow the correct rotation of my wrists during the swing.

Any suggestions on this?

Thanks!

Haha good point. I just don't find them that comfortable to play with and liked the feel of the other grips.

Depends on your preference. I like Golf Pride although they are pricey. My next favorite is Lamkin. I don't care for Winn because they are too soft. Again, it's preference. Other than size, I'm not sure the brand you choose actually affects anything. Certain materials like cord vs velvet give a different feel and response to the player, but that's it. The size will determine rotation for the most part. I have happy wrists and long fingers, so I use midsize grips. That helps me a lot.

My favorite grips are the Golf Pride Multicompound ones (the cord is where you wear a glove, which means it doesn't cut into your hands if they're sensitive) as they give a good grip even when wet and the rubber at the bottom half is nice and soft. I also will second that the Lamkin grips are nice too. I like the R.E.L. 3Gen grips they have, they're comfortable to hold. It's just that I prefer the golf pride ones myself.
