This weekend, we are having a tournament between 24 of the best golfers available at our club. We have two captains who each pick a team of 12 golfers, who will play against each other in the same Ryder Cup format. We each pay $250 in which we receive 3 team shirts, cart fees, and a Thursday night kick-off party. The winning team gets their money back, not to mention any other bets made throughout the matches. It really gets your competitive and team spirit going.

My question is, do any of you do this at your club? Do you do something similar?

I started a Ryder Cup format tournament this year. We plan on making it an annual event. What we did was got 8 guys per team and played over two days. Both teams were from different areas. My group was from one county the other group was in another about 3 hours away. We played on their turf this year, next year they come down to mine.

Day one we played fourballs (2 man best ball) on the front nine, then foursomes (2 man alternate shot) on the back nine.

Day two we played a 2 man scramble on the front nine, then on the back we played 1 on 1 match play.

Each match was worth a point.

Going into the match play we were tied in points. We ended up losing the tournament by one match. Talk about close! Can't wait for next year.

And yes we did take it as for as you and had matching shirts! haha.

We have such a format since 2 years - 2 pros as captains pick their team from the junior golfers + some adults to fill up the rows. This year we had 2 teams a 12 people. We played 2 x 18 holes - the same types of matches as described by dcomartin. Obviously - since it was a junior event - we didnt gambled for money or paid "event fees".
