I've done it after 9 holes.... times when I was playing poorly and there really was no reason to continue. Not during competitions though, just times when I came out as a single and was playing with strangers. It never had anything to do with the other players, just with me and a bad round that wasn't worth finishing. I always get a 9 hole rain check when I do quit early though... I'm not going to play a bad 9 holes then pay for 18...

How do you get a rain check if it is not raining??

I have wanted to many times but never have and hope to never.

good man, good man! I noticed that in some peoples posts they mentioned changing weather or just intense heat... and I don't think thats the point of this thread. I thought it was about an experience where someone just walked off because he was playing poorly and showed poor sportsmanship. If I'm shooting 10000000 through 7 I'll never walk off the course. It's just a matter of principles and the tradition of our great game.

The only time ive walked off is because of rain and we were forced to get off the course. Most of the time im pretty patient with slow play but the time hasnt come yet where it's so bad i just leave.

Whats in my bag?

I only walked off because of thunderstorms, or sometimes when i dont really feel up to playing I just skip to 9 after 5 because 6 tee is right beside the 9 tee. As long as nobody is coming up 8.

At my course, the seventh tee is next to the ninth green, with the clubhouse right there. A few times, I was 2 hours to the seventh tee because of tournament groups ahead, and walked in not wanting to be out there for six hours.

One story from the past: When I was about 14-15 (mid 1980's) I worked at the course shagging balls and cleaning clubs. Myself and another junior member went out in the summer around supper time with one of the Assistant pros. He was a good golfer (played the Australian tour) but had a drinking problem (when things quieted down and he was working, he'd head up to the clubhouse and order double rum and cokes, and a few times while hammered would come and hit balls at us while we shagged the range). Anyways, this night we're playing with him, he shoots 29 on the front nine. Me and the other junior are in awe, and when we finish nine, he says are you guys going on? We said we'd stop and just walk with him so he could get in by dark. He told us not to bother, he was walking in! He shoots 29, the course record at that time was 65, and he heads up to the clubhouse to get hammered. What an idiot! The last time I saw him was in the early 90's I was going to University in Victoria B.C., and I went to pay for my parking in a downtown lot; I hand my $ over and I hear "Hey Scooter" (my nickname as a kid) and there he is, the same Assistant pro. I asked him if he still played and he said once or twice a year. The only time I've ever heard of anyone 7 under through nine walk in!!!
