Headed out for a business trip in a couple days and really would like to get out and play. It appears that every means I try says I can't play, but I'm hoping someone has some other tricks.... Basically, my availability is Sunday (Sept 9) morning/day (need to be finished by, say, 3pm) or Tuesday (Sept 11) afternoon (can tee off after 3pm or so).

I was hoping to try to walk on Torrey Pines, like crack of dawn Sunday, but can't even find the # to talk to the pro shop to see if that's an option. Got caught up in voice mail jail when I called up. Online tee times at other places show nothing, even for a single.

FYI, I'm staying at the Marriott Marina and, though I'll have a car, I don't want to spend a lot of time driving all over the coast. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, not that it matters much, but just wanted to follow up. I ended up playing Torrey Pines North and South as a walk-on. Beautiful courses, even with South being mostly torn up. My play, well, that's another matter.....!

hey sonic,

Yeah, there's a large walk-on contingent there, surprisingly. I played the North on a Sunday morning - pro shop said that, with football season starting, Sunday mornings are more open - and teed off within about 45 minutes. I played the South on a Tuesday afternoon, which really isn't in the great of shape with all the prep/construction for the Open, but the North was closed off for an outing. I think I waited similarly about 30-45 minutes then, too.

I would just call ahead and make sure nothing like an outing/tournament is going on, but more likely than not, you can just show up.

we got lucky a few years ago and called in through the system to get a time. The South is in pretty bad shape almost all the time. We played it 3 weeks before the Buick and the greens were extremely bumpy.
