It generally is not news, given the frequency with which it happens, when a tour player fires a caddie. But when a caddie quits on a tour player? And in mid-round? Now that’s news.

It happened on Saturday at the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship (formerly known as the Reno-Tahoe Open), when Michael Lawson, who has caddied for Brian Stuard for three years, “dropped the bag and walked off the course,” the Reno Gazette-Journal’s Dan Hinxman reported .

Lawson and Stuard apparently were arguing for several holes before Lawson suddenly quit on the 12th hole. A woman in the gallery, Christy Atencio, wearing a dress and flip-flops, stepped up to carry Stuard’s bag for the final six holes. Chad Munoz, an assistant pro at Montreux Golf and Country Club, caddied for Stuard on Sunday.

That would be really cool to caddy for a few holes for a tour player.  It would be especially cool if he played decent for those few holes and asked you back for the following day. :-P

The only thing that might be cooler than that would be if he just said "eff it, I'll carry my own dang bag!!" for the last few holes.

    • Yeah I’ve tried it but I don’t feel very comfortable doing it like that. Isn’t there like a website where I can do it so it’s safer??
    • Day 200 3-4 Wider back swing, arms up a bit higher, and added in some flow work to start getting a since of a full swing. Still focusing on arching wrist through downswing.
    • It's going to be very difficult for the 2026 Masters to match the 2025 edition for storyline. I honestly don't know that anyone else in the field could match the story of Rory finally winning after so many years and the blow ups over the years, not to mention the career slam being completed. No one this year that I can think of is remotely close to that kind of story. Combine that with the attempts at blow ups last year (Double on the 1st, 13, 18 on first try) and the stunningly good shots that he hit in the final round (7, 15, 17, 18 on second try).  Full gamut: https://www.masters.com/en_US/watch/2025-04-13/17445961638226475/every_single_shot_from_rory_mcilroys_final_round.html
