Counterfeit Titleist

Greetings,

I have a quick question for anyone who has ever used Titleist 704's. I purchased a set last Spring from SupremeGolf in Arlington, TX through e-bay. The irons arrived in new condition and I have been very happy with their performance. When I tried to register them on the Titleist website I was informed I would need a serial number off of the 6 iron. Well, my irons don't have any serial numbers on any of the irons and I am wondering if they are authentic or clones? Can anyone help me in determining their authenticity? I called Titleist and they said I would need to send them back to the factory for inspection. Is there any other way?

If there is no serial number etched into any of the clubs, I would have to say that they are not genuine, unless they came from a tour van, but even those have serials on them most of the time. Post some pics. I am sure someone will be able to tell just by looking at them.

Thanks for getting back with me so quickly. I actually have talked with 3 separate people from Titleist who said it in not uncommon for earlier 704 cb's to not have any serial numbers. Their representatives told me the only club with a serial number would be the 6 iron. I will try to download some pictures when my daughter gets home. I have studied pictures of the 704 cb's and my clubs have the same True Temper shafts and Titleist grips made my Golf Pride. My local pro looked at the clubs and told me he didn't think there was any way they could be counterfeits but I wanted another opinion.

I am by no means an expert in Titleist equipment. If their reps said that some of the clubs come without serials, then I would have to guess that they know what they are talking about. Chances are, if you bought from someone with good feedback on E-bay, they are genuine.

No serials can also mean ex-demo or European clubs. Not sure why they don't serialise some European clubs...

Given the market for counterfeit clubs it would be unlikely that someone would knowingly be selling a fake that was made in 2005. I suppose it's possible that they were counterfeited back then but if your pro feels they are genuine I would go with his opinion. If you still have doubts then only Titleist can definitively answer your question.

Off the rack Titleists had serial on the 6 iron only. Custom iron orders from Titleist had serials on all of the irons.  Tour issued or tour van assembled most often had nothing, according to Team Titleist.  Tour van assembled clubs would have been assembled for tour players, pro shops, demos, etc....  I also had concerns, as my irons had no serials.  I did not buy mine from a "wholesaler" though, like the link that sebi provided above.  Ever wonder how they are selling brand new models at wholesale prices that are $300-500 cheaper than the cheapest authorized vendor?  Even when buying from ebay, I won't buy anything unless they have an actual storefront, or live close enough to me to warrant a "special visit" if something isn't up to snuff.

Here's all I need to know regarding whether the Titleist you mention above are fake or not:

That's the registrant for the website, and all contact info is also from Chong Qing province.

For anyone looking at a website posting great deals, spend the extra 30 seconds and go to whois.net and look up the website registrant.    If it's in China, stay clear.    Simple.

all those online sites that have 3 words together in a row are counterfeit clubs, they are all in the 300-400 dollar range and all the sites look real similar to each other............it is probably the same co, there is prolly on 2-3 manufacturer"s producing the counterfeit clubs and they supply all the sites..........i have only been back in golf for a couple of weeks and have figured that out and it blows me away that people been around for a while and know this but ask " what about golfonlinwholesale?........the site looks the same, the " live help/chat" is the same and the prices are the same......if you cant figure that out than you have bigger worries than buying counterfeit clubs, lol

A Titlist dealer CAN"T sell on an auction for less then list price. I'm sure the same goes for all the major companies.

Good e-bay feed back is wothless because a lot of people are happy buying counterfit - and saving $300. Some of the most blantant counterfitters have high feed back. A golfer who plays 4 times during the summer  is most likely not going to know the difference, or care.

PS: I custom ordered  my Titelists. Every club has serial numbers.
