Guess it would have to be Lennon over McCartney in terms of lyrics and songwriting.  But only because in an interview John was asked which Beatles song was the band's best effort.  He immediately answered with the song title Here Comes The Sun.  He also added that he wished dearly that he had written the song rather than George Harrison.

What was so ironic about the Beatles was that after they called it quits in 1970, George Harrison and Ringo Star went on to have immediate success AFTER leaving the Beatles and John and Paul didn't write any hits until much later.

Preferred Lennon but they were really a team. I don't think much that came out of the Beatles was a solo effort by any of them. Some awesome music from the four of them.
