I'm thinking of planning a trip down to Myrtle Beach either at the end of February or in early March. I'd love to bring my wife, but she doesn't play. But she loves the beach . Thus, I'm curious what the weather is like during that time for both golf and for beach (if it's no good for the beach she gets postcards .)

Thanks!
Andy

I did my golf trip to MB in February 2007, 17-19 or something like that.

It was forecast to be in the low 60s, but it if got above 60, the wind chill factor made it feel 10 degrees cooler.

Also, it was blustery. As a hardcore shorts-wearer on the golf course (gotta be downright brutal for me to don long pants), I spent three days in long slacks or windpants. It was acceptable golf weather, but a LONG way from beach weather, I am afraid.

Heaven is 630 a.m. Saturday morning, 65 crisp degrees headed toward a comfortable 80, first tee (elevated, of course) . . . and not another worry in the world.

Thanks guys. Looks like she'll be getting one of those "Wish You Were Here" postcards. Do you think cooler weather (50s) favors the conditions on any course over another? I'm thinking that the courses with a lot of water might not be as fun...

I was in MB February of 2006. I believe it was the 12-14th. We experienced very mixed weather. Like you said the highs are forecasted in the low 60's for that time period. We had 2 absolutely gorgeous days (highs in the mid 60's) sandwiched around one miserable one. We wore shorts for those 2 nice days but could not put on enough layers to keep warm the other. It started with a frost delay that pushed our tee time from 8:30AM to well past 10AM. Once we got out it didn't seem to bad. The first 3 holes (at Oyster Bay) are sheltered by trees. After that it got brutal. Most of the holes are lined by the bays and the winds off the water were cold and unrelenting. It was a beautiful course but in that weather was just awful.

I was told by locals that the weather is usually like that "if its cold today,it most likely won't be tomorrow' That stood true for our trip.I would say your good for golf but the beach is pretty much out of the question. Have fun!

February and March is good golf weather, but not really good beach weather. If you're looking for beach weather, then wait until May. Plus beginning on May 19th, 2008, the rates are at their lowest. Have fun.

    • I can't say that I remember a lot of individual putts, but I do have one specific memory.  The first time I played the Old Course, I had hit a pretty good drive on the 6th hole.  I had about 60 yards left, and due to the swale in front of the green, there was no chance of flying a wedge on or near the green and having it stop on the green.  My caddie recommended either a running 7-iron chip or a putt, and I took the putter and a pretty hard swing.  The ball rolled over humps and through hollows, disappeared into the swale in front of the green, and re-appeared heading right at the hole.  I ended up maybe 12 feet away.  The caddie turned and held out his hand to shake mine, and said "Now THAT was a golf shot!"
    • For the first time since 2021, I made a 3 on the 12th at Stoneleigh.    395 yards, something like 80 feet uphill, I hit a solid drive and a 7-wood to inside a foot.  Even I couldn't miss that one.  I feel like I haven't played a lot of golf this year, but I'm making decent progress.
