I am 47 just had major(Ok if not major to you, diffidently major to me LOL) Last Oct(The 31st) I had spine fusion of L-3 and 4, and decompression of L-5 I just seen my surgeon at the 12 week mark, the spine has healed really good, but suffer a lot of strength from my left leg. I am starting rehab next week. Ask him and gave me the green light to start swinging, slowly, short irons first and work with PT. I have a ton and a half of work to go to get back into playing shape, and try to get back to my 15+ handicap. So what I am i looking at?, should i see a swing Dr to change my swing, i had already did on my own, shorting up on my back swing, but it was to late to save my back. I was self taught so those early years took a beating. So i was just trying gauge what i am in store for?. I look forward to the recovery, i have not play a round since June, so i am itching really bad to get back out there.

As a Physical Therapist and Golf Performance Trainer, I have had guys with the same surgery... And have got them back to playing golf with no restrictions.  Some common (In which you may or may not have) trends that I have seen with my back surgery guys are limitations in their Hip range of motion.  Primarily lead hip Internal Rotation will tend to place more rotational forces on your lumbar spine (In which you don't want!) My advise to you would be get your self on a good fitness regiment including core stabilization (key to support your back), Lower body strengthening, and upper stabilization.  As well as making sure your range of motion is good within your hips and thoracic spine to be able to make a full turn and have good separation between your upper and lower body keeping your distance good!  Make sure you are fully cleared by your MD BEFORE you swing and start slow progress up from 50% to 75% then let it rip!
