I'll update this post periodically to list the open positions we have at The Sand Trap .com.

Perks
First off, any regular position at The Sand Trap provides the following benefits:

  • A platform from which you can share your views of the golf world and be heard by industry leaders, golf fans, players, and everyone in between. Our visitor numbers are pretty high.
  • Ability and access to review equipment and courses you can review.
  • "Newport Cup" staff competitions in a good golf destination (when we can).
  • Discounts on equipment (varies by company).
  • Moderator status in the forum

In other words, though we do have some nice perks, we are looking for people who are passionate about the game of golf and would derive some fun and enjoyment from writing about it. Eventually we're going to pay our staff, but for now, it's some free equipment and the chance to get your name and opinions out there.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities would include:

  • Submitting a weekly column, on time and to (our admittedly loose) standards. Columns range from 800 to 1400+ words.

That's really it. There are opportunities, of course, to do more, but these aren't requirements at all:

  • Become more active in the forum.
  • Review equipment and courses.
  • Contribute extra "Swing Thoughts" type columns.

We're pretty flexible with taking a week off here or there, for any reason, and we all take several weeks off around Christmas time.

Open Positions

Hittin' the Links
http://thesandtrap.com/b/hittin_the_links
Published on Mondays, Hittin' the Links is basically a quickie list of nine (we could expand it to 18 if there's interest) links from around the world of golf, including the recent tournaments, with a short comment on each. Ideally someone applying for HtL would also participate in the forum a fair bit, and I have some ideas on how we can create some more relevant discussions each week as well.

To Apply
To apply, please send a PM to both me and Mike (mvmac). Tell me which column you're interested in. Give me a little background on your writing skills. Tell me why you'd make a good columnist. Share some ideas you have for future columns... that sort of thing.

    • Bryson got hit with a 2 shot penalty, after the round, for improving his lie on hole 5.  Here is a post on X, showing how he stepped on high grass when he was looking down his target line.  When they cut to the side shot, you can see how close he was behind the ball.  I think the R&A probably made the correct decision. You just have to be really careful when you are walking in the high grass, around the ball and where you are to make a swing.

    • Day 27 (17 July 26) - Normally an 18 hole day, but due to commitments abbreviated the round to 9 holes (played the back nine at home course).  Had a solid session where even the worst miss (tee shot off 18) was fully playable.  Shot a solid 39 (6pars, 3bogies) - not dbls, no three putts - just boring golf.
    • Overall, well said. People have to be very careful in trying to describe very complex problem in simple terms. In this case, it is a clear fundamental misunderstanding of Newton's 1st and 3rd laws.  To clarify more on the misinterpretation of Newton's 1st law. The exact interpretation of Newton's 1st Law....  "Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it" yea, a body will stay motionless unless a force acts upon it. An object will stay on its path of motion unless a force acts upon it.  I get it, complex physics problems are difficult. There is a lot of simplification done in most physics class when it is taught. A classic problem uses a frictionless surface. Projectile motion excludes drag and wind direction. Collisions are usually elastic. The golf swing is not a simple physics problem.  Yea, I think they got caught up the data on the graphs and are not truly understanding cause and effect.  If the golfer isn't first pushing into the ground, then the ground isn't going to push back.  The internal forces of the body create the motion, not the external forces from the ground. The ground isn't like what Psy uses to start his concert. 🤣 You probably need to be connected to the ground and have those GRF to help the body produce the motion you want. Your body has to move in the right way to produce the GRF which helps you move the body in the way you want. Body motion precedes the GRF.
