Hey guys.... got a quick question for y'all.

A buddy of mine gave me one of his driver heads that he didn't need anymore, and I need to get a new shaft put on it. I'm fairly new to this game and there are so many products available in the market that I get confused just trying to figure out what shaft I should get. Is there any brand that y'all can recommend that is quality, but won't cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks.

I must assume that, because your moniker has something to do with uga/dawgs, that you're an alum. I'm UGA '78. Go Dawgs! Uh oh, they kind of got wiped last weekend. Oh well, it's a tough road back to the top. About shafts, my fellow pup: Different shafts have different characteristics; for example, some like the Aldila NV series help create a mid to high launch, others like the Proto By You are designed for a more penetrating launch. Some shafts are designed for high swing speed players, others are designed for those with slower swing speeds. Even within the same swing characteristic and swing speed category, there will just be some shafts you will swing better than others. The best thing you can do is to go to a large shop with a swing speed monitor and have your swing speed determined. Try out several different types and brands of shafts appropriate for your swing speed. When you find one or two or three possibilities, take those clubs out to the range a try them so that you can observe ball flight, as other characteristics. Also, try to determine what you're trying to achieve; for example, a higher handicap player may want a particular shaft because it will help him get the ball up in the air easier than another type of shaft. A lower handicap player may want a certain type of shaft because he wants a more boring type of trajectory and, because of his swing, ability, experience, etc., he doesn't need help getting the ball up. So, you have to determine what you want most from the club you're reshafting, couple that information with your skill level and swing speed and you will be able to narrow your selection down to a few shafts. Then be sure to try them out on the range and you will be able to make the most informed choice for your game. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you.

That definitely helps, and I appreciate the help. Sounds like I need to go to a pro shop and get some help like you said. Yes, UGA alum here. Class of 2004. Thanks again, and GO DAWGS!

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
