It definitely comes down to what's most comfortable to the individual. I've played with a guy before who gripped the club cross-hand, and he could shoot in the 70's. I wouldn't suggest that to anyone, but it worked for him.

So you like interlocking better now?

It feels alot more natural to me. Overlapping feels too tight to me, if that makes sense. I have fairly small hands, so I think the interlocking grip allows me to have lighter grip pressure which is always a good thing. My ball flight hasn't really changed that I've noticed.

I started overlap as a kid, but busted my collar bone skating after about 9 months in the game, then went to interlock when I was healed. Never looked back. Every once in a while I'll try overlap, but I feel a HUGE lack of control of the club at the top of my swing. Like my hands are going to come apart.

Hey, if interlock is good enough for Jack and Tiger, it's certainly good enough for me.

I use the interlocking grip since it is what I learned as a kid. Anything else just feels so unnatural to me... especially the overlapping. I have tried the overlapping but it doesn't seem to make me hit the ball any better and really just irks me because it is one more thing I have to think about before I hit the ball, whereas the interlocking grip to me is just innate.

I first tried baseball before I learned anything about proper golf. Then I started trying to study the game and picked up overlapping. However, at the range recently I've played around with interlocking. It seems to help me with my hand/wrist position on my downswing and I've been hitting the ball much straighter.

Of course I seem to swing a little softer with that grip so maybe that has something to do with it as well?

when i started taking lessons, the local pro told me to "hold the club in the most comfortable way". he didn't even talk about the different grips out there.

in the end, i settled for something that looked like an overlap grip, and hasn't changed it since.
