I failed big time!
Failed to play 25 rounds - played a lot of nine hole rounds and joined a golf league at church. Had fun but missed this goal.

No handicap - Did not get this done again. Payed for a year at scorecard.com and didn't post one round.

Tempo - Worked on this during the rounds I played except for the league, it was a scramble format and I swung for the green!

Memorial - Had a great time at the tournament. Attended five days. followed Adam Scott for his 62 on Friday. Got a lot of autographs with my son.

Golf trip - this didn't happen but I met a bunch of new golfers in the league and a golf trip may be in the works for next year.

Golf books - yeah, I read a few, but the pile is still high. There's always winter!

I did a poor job on my goals this year but I did play in a cool league and met a lot of nice guys. I had to adjust my priorities for my son's sports. I coached his baseball team and helped with the all-star team, helped coach his football team and kept stats for his team and helped the high school team with stats. One of these years I'm going to dedicate myself to golf, maybe next year!

Setting goals this past winter was a big deal to me. I really hadn't played in a few years do to small obsession with racing I had. After 6 years of only playing one or two rounds of golf. I sold off all of my racing stuff and decided to rededicate myself back to the game I love.
My main goal was to get my handicap down below a 9.
My second goal was to spend at least 2 days a week practicing and 2 days playing.
Overall I reached my goals as I finished the year. I think I know what I need to do to get my game down to a better level next season. I can't wait to start a new challenge and look forward to more good days on the course.

I'm not sure where to put this, so I figure I'd drop it in here. (Mods - please don't delete without saving the material if possible, let me know ahead of time or PM me the text, it's taken a while to figure this out, thanks.)

Got bored tonight and figured I'd put together an estimation of everything I've done this year on the golf course. I'll explain how I got to my conclusions, as well.

This is what you can do when you (attempt to) keep every score card...

Holes Played : 1024 verifiable via scorecards, March 20 - May 1 missing. Average of 11.9 holes per round (a lot of 9 holers), so 11.9 (24) = 286. Total: 1310 holes

Rounds Played : 86 verifiable via scorecards, estimated 24 rounds not accounted for (using May as a reference, with 16 rounds, 16x1.33 = 24). Total: 110 rounds .

Yards Driven in Golf Cart : This is a complicated one. I am going to figure the average hole length to be 350 yards, plus an average of fifty yards from green to tee. Multiply that by 1.3 (the ball doesn't always go straight) and then by 1.2 over again (because I will drive in circles looking for a lost ball). And it's a mile out and back to Fox Run, so thats 1,760x2 multiplied by about 50 rounds. That would be 1310(400)(1.3)(1.2) + 1760(100)= 817,440 + 176,000 = 993,440 yards. Or about 570 miles. That's a lot of miles driven in a golf cart governor'd to 14 miles per hour.

Strokes Taken : Scoring average minus about five strokes (penalties). I am estimating my scoring average this year to be 94 (I varied widely and was much worse early in the year), so that's 89 strokes taken per round. 89 (110 - rounds played) = 9790 strokes. Now figure it's an average of 11.9 holes, not 18. 11.9/18 multiplied by 9790 is 6472 . That doesn't count mulligans, practice shots, extra balls, et cetera. But that's official strokes at any rate.

Balls Lost : This is actually a dicey question since I don't really know. Most of my buddies had me toss them extra balls which they quickly lost in the woods, and then ask for more again and again. Going by my ball stockpile, it's about 800 balls fewer than March 1. Now I know I didn't lose that many balls. My best guess is, assuming an average of five penalties per round, 4 of which are lost balls, that would be 11.9/18 (4) (110) = 291 . Damn, that's still a lot of balls.

Total Cost of Golf this year : Phew. This is going to be a big number.

Starting from the ground up.

Golf membership - $450
Golf clubs - $1400 - clubs, grips, labor
Golf accessories - $100 - gloves, tees, rules book, that sort of thing.
Golf balls - I get my balls for roughly 11 cents a piece. So, 291(.11) = $32.01. Actually more considering I also paid for the balls my buddies lost, the real cost is probably 90 bucks.
Greens fees - I only played about 10 rounds this year not at my home course, 3 of which were down in Myrtle Beach. I'd place greens fees at $300.
Cart fees are home course - no greens fees when you're a member, but cart fees are a killer. $15 (11.9/18) (110) (.85 - unofficial free rounds) = $927.20
Money lost in bets - not much, but I would say $50 over the course of the year.
Food at the turn, beer cart girl, etc. - easily $500.
Gas going back and forth - 14 miles there and back, so 14(110) divided by 25 (my average MPG) by 3. - $185.

So how much is that again?

$4,002.21 .

Yeah, golf is an expensive habit...
