Has anyone tried/owned these irons and the driver, as I am looking at a change to my equipment. Would anyone have any comparisons to ping s58 and 735/695 titleist? Thanks

I have the r7 tp irons and r7 425 tp driver. Funnily enough I just got back from the range about 5 minutes ago. I just picked up the 425 and it was the first time I had a chance to hit it. I'm a bit of an equipment nut and tend to buy clubs online on a whim if I find a smokin deal whick I did for the driver.
After hitting about 30-40 balls with the driver I'm pretty happy with it. It sets up really square being the tp version and I like the slightly smaller head size. The Superquad I have looks a little too bulbus for me and may take a little more getting used too. The stock Rombax 75g shaft has some nice weight too.
As far as the irons go I had it down to the S58's and the R7 tp's at Golfsmith (great minds think alike ) and really liked them both and hit them both equally well. I found a great deal on the TP's hence they are in the bag. You may wan't to look at the mizuno MP60's or the new 57's they are very sweet and I'm currently trying to talk myself out of buying a set The Srixon I-506 can be found for some pretty good deals now also....nice forged iron.

Good luck!

I have th TP irons. I LOVE them. they are very workable and yet somewhat forgiving. A little pricey but they would be worth it.

Alright then, thanks for the input guys. I have decided to wait a while on the irons, as i hit them today and they were a TINY bit unforgiving for an inconsistent ball striker like me

Had it down to Ping S58's, R7 TP's and MP60's - went for the Pings for lower ball flight and control. They look more like players clubs at the address too which throws people off. Also, the word PING puts people off. Don't let it - try them!

The R7's were more forgiving than the other two sets, i would recommend them to someone who is looking for tour standard irons but you want to be striking the ball pretty well to get the most out of them (costly!)

Driverwise - try the standard models as well as the TP's - The standard clubs are designed for the handicap golfer, and are in most cases easier to hit, more forgiving and cheaper.

love the r7 TPs
previously played the 735Cm and MP-32
although not forged these are so much easier to hit ....
the 735 felt a bit harsh although I liked the combo set
the cast irons seem lot more durable but certainly not as much in the feel dept...

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
