I am planning a golf trip for myself and 3 buddies and the best location for most of us will be Sea Island, GA. My friends will be driving from Tampa, FL and I am flying into Jacksonville so we can start the trip off with a round at TPC Sawgrass before heading to Sea Island. I would like to do 3 rounds in Sea Island then play the Harbor Town golf course in Hilton Head. 5 rounds in 4 days.

Does anyone have some recommendations on resorts or should we just get a hotel and play the nice courses? Is it possible to play Sea Island Golf club without staying there? Not really worried too much about costs, just need to know if anyone has done it and what the ideal spots are.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I'm pretty sure you have to stay at Sea Pines to play Harbour Town. I stayed and played there twice last year and it was fantastic. Rent one of their condos, its alot chiller with a group that way. Im not 100% sure but it never hurts to call the pro shop just to check.

I know where I live, You have to stay on property at Pinehurst Resort in order to play #2 but you can play the other 8 courses with out being a resort guest.

Thanks for the tips.

We ended up deciding on Orlando since it will be warmer and flights are dirt cheap.

When we went to Harbour Town in 1989, we stayed in condos at Sea Pines, and you are right, it is the way to go.  God, I wished we had bought a condo on the Ocean that was selling for $90,000.  It is probably worth $600,000+ now.  I wish that I had not posted that.  I am going to my room to cry, and then to my favorite 19th hole to have a few drinks to forgetaboutit!

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
