Going to be in Louisville, KY beginning of March this year. Its my first trip to KY! I see online a few courses like Wildwood, Crescent Hill, Quail Chase, Big Spring, Seneca and dozens of others. There are so many differing opinions - I wondered if anyone could recommend a great course? We only have one day free for a 4 ball, so recommendations would be very welcome. Thanks.

I live in Louisville. Seneca and Quail Chase are very nice courses, I'd definitely recommend both. If you are staying in downtown or the east end, Seneca will be the closest of the two.

Another option, if you are willing to drive over to Indiana (about 15-20 minutes up I-65 from downtown), Fuzzy Zoeller's Covered Bridge is a nice course too. Check it out here: http://www.fuzzygolf.com/

Schultz, thanks very much for this and Covered Bridge looks beautiful. If I have enough time it's easily worth a short drive out.

Been years since I've played any public courses in Louisville now that I'm a country club snob.  :-(

(Wildwood and Big Spring are private BTW)

Keep in mind that weather and course conditioning is not the best the beginning of March, so it will be kind of a crap shoot.

I would recommend Fuzzy's courses as well, he has two in the same area, both are semi-private.  They are zoysia fairways however, so they will still be dormant the beginning of March.  I don't know if that will bother you.

Nevel Meade and Heritage Hills are two other public courses.  Nevel is more of a links style with bent fairways, which is unusual for a pubic course.

I've been trying to find a way to play Valhalla for years and no luck. If anyone knows of a way to do it,  I'd love to know.

Establishing  a relationship with a Valhalla member and playing as a guest is the most likely way.  As far as I know they still allow unaccompanied guest play, although if memory serves it costs more.  You still need a member to set it up, however

We had a member set up out tee time, but we played unaccompanied.

Thanks all, and hopefully people I'm with will want to play - seems a long way to come just to sit in a downtown bar!!

      Day 16: range night! Worked on long game for about 40 minutes, with a good solid 20 minute focus on my priority piece. Things improving there. Bookended that with some wedge and driver work. Finished up with about 30 minutes of short game. Working on distance control and all types of shots and lies. Short game is probably as good as it has ever been.

      You should be able to install it yourself, honestly. You could easily blow it on and use some one-sided duct tape or something so it stays in place. That's what I've done with one of my grips.

      Hi all, My Edel putter seems to have developed a rattle.  I don't think it's a big deal, as I mostly hear it when I'm tapping down ball marks on greens.  However, I am debating getting it fixed, especially as I intend to play a lot of golf in August and September, and to continue playing regularly after that of course too.  My issue is I think fixing it would entail the fixer (golf shop repair station?) removing the grip and, presumably, applying a new one.  My problem is two-fold.   First, I like the grip on it, although after eleven years, maybe it's worth replacing.   The bigger (second) issue is getting the grip.  I don't like the flat-fronted putter grips anymore.  I have the round one on my putter, and I suppose I could buy one from Edel's website, but would a golf shop install a grip I bought elsewhere and brought in?  Or could they order one if Edel is not a supplier of theirs?  I don't recall ever seeing any Edel products in a Roger Dunn or PGA Superstore, although the era when I would go to a store and browse has long since ended (for better or worse).  I'd also wonder what the timetable is, as I'm leaving for a seven week trip in under three weeks. Any suggestions on what to do would be very welcome, whether about the rattle or the grip, together or independently.  Thank you!

      I'm glad to know that picking up grass and letting it go doesn't help.  It felt like it shouldn't, but I'm glad to hear there's a good reason why.  It makes sense that wind is different higher up than it is near the surface. For a while, I was in the habit of checking the prevailing wind direction before playing.  That helped if I wasn't sure.  However, I still am not really sure whether something is a 5% wind or a 10% wind (and, of course, I know that a "helping" wind helps about half as much as the same wind hurting).   One of these days, I'll learn how to figure out what to do differently if the prevailing wind is 10mph vs 20 mph.
