What type of horror stories do people have here regarding buying online?

I was looking into buying from Golfio.com. Seems legit. Also when I go to the Callaway site...looks like an authorized seller. But...still...a little concerned.

Just don't be overly exited when you see a super low price. Make sure to check the reputations and reviews of the site. Ask customer service few questions and see how they respond. That can be a good indication of how they are going to be, in case you have a problem with your product.

Agreed. To add...

If they don't have the option to order by phone (or you have to click around forever to find the number), I don't order from them. I'll shop online and pick what I want, then order by phone. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer a quick conversation/transaction with a courteous human being.

If the buyer has good reviews and is a authorized dealer there shouldn't be a problem, but there is always that one time. I would use a credit card that you fight the payment if there is a dispute or fraud. Also, I buy most of my equip. on-line and never have problems.(knock on wood)

Here is an update on my experience with Golfio...

So far so good. I identified a wedge that is not being sold elsewhere because it is being closed out. I called them and they answered the phone promptly, knowledgable about the product and in equipment in general. Assisted me with all questions and assured authenticity by stating I can return the product for a full cash refund if need be. Placed the order on the phone on Thurs late afternoon. Got an email confirmation at noon Friday indicating it was shipped...along with the UPS shipping tracking info.

So far so good.

I am now turned onto the concept that wedges should be matching. I wanted to match my Callaway Forged+ wedges. I personally believe that they play better than the current Callaway X or any others I tried out.

Yes..I could have gone to Callaway Preowned...but I was able to find a brand new wedge at a lower price at Golfio. And as I mentioned...they have a return policy where they will refund and not force you to take a store credit. I am going to have the shipped club inspected to make sure it is the real deal.

Update... I received the wedge on Monday...after placing the order Thursday late afternoon at 5pm PST. The club was well packaged in the carton. Pulled out the club and inspected it...comparing the 56* to my 60* that I bought from Golf Smith. It is the real deal. Club shaft steps match. Head markings identical. All the ID tags match.

My online experience worked and got what I ordered...and the real deal.

I have bought most of my golf equipment on ebay and very happy with the products.

The only time I received a product I was not happy with the condition was when a general picture was posted and the seller had only a few transactions.

You are lucky, I had quite the opposite experience. They charged my credit card immediately and 6 weeks later no club. My email inquiries produced no result or even answers. My pnone calls produced promises but no results. Finally I cancelled the order and they did credit my account. I ordered from TGW and got it within 3 days.

I wouldn't normally order through Golfio...just that they had a discontinued item (they seem to be a clearance house for discontinued items...as they have all kinds of great buys) that I wanted....a wedge that nobody else carries.

Still...I got what I wanted at a great price.

My only horror story that has to do with golf equipment involves the nefarious BHM golf company. I'm sure you can find a lot of horror stories about them without looking too hard, but needless to say if my purchase was more expensive (like a set of clubs), I would probably take the guy (Brian) to court. Complete fraud and I can't believe he is still in business.

    • Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it and your willingness to help. I'll be practicing these things and will be bringing a club with me to work as well so that I can work on it a bit throughout the day in the down time.

    • Well, crap.  Last night didn't go well. I actually hit my irons very well. Maybe too well. Flew the over the green on a couple of occasions. So, I got to the course late, therefore no warm up. Right from the car to the teebox. All the gold or yellow tees we normally play were set way back yesterday. We basically played the tips. That seemed kind of odd, but what ever.  Hole 1: Hit a great drive. Left PW to the flag. My shot never left the flag and literally came down on the top of the flag stick. (Which turned out to be a bad thing.) I three putted to bogey. Hole 2: Par 3, played long yesterday (again, from the tips), I hit hybrid off the tee. NGIR bogey on two.  Hole 3: Crushed my drive on the par-5 third. Possibly the longest drive I've hit all year... and it drew. Unfortunately I hit it where there isn't a golf course. Three from the tee, double bogey. Hole 4: I hit a great drive to the center, hit PW to about 10 feet, 2-putted, par. Yay! Hole 5: This was a mess. My tee shot found a tree, I had to punch out, then still had no angle at the green, made a double. Hole 6: Solid drive into a fairway bunker. Advanced it well, but my 3rd was a wedge which I flew long on the par-5 sixth. Fatted a chip, bogey. Hole 7: NGIR on the par 3 from way back at the tips. Chip on, 2-putt boogie. eh? Hole 8: Ugh! ... My approach flew the green and I got "sand-trapped". I tried to get cute out of the bunker, then went bunker to bunker. Made a triple. It was just sad. Hole 9: Played fine, GIR, 2-putt.  So, needless to say it was a bit disappointing.
    • Yes, right (trail) hand. Thanks for the demo.
