Started playing last summer and I've made a lot of progress but unfortunately within a few months of playing developed a bad case of tennis elbow. I have taken the last month off (only a slight improvement) and decided today to go i the backyard and hit a few pitching wedge shots over the pond. Don't want to swing much more than a wedge so I figured I'd post a video and start improving my swing from the short clubs on up while my elbow heals.

I've been Playing Golf for: 10 Months
My current handicap index or average score is: Low 100s
My typical ball flight is: Push or Draw
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Push

Good place to start is this thread:

Posture looks like it could use some improvement. Would obviously defer to the real experts on here, but this is the thing that jumps out to me.

I'd really study the posture thread and post another video, ideally FO and DL with a 6-iron, paying attention to the camera angles.

Went through the posture thread last night and decided to go play an executive today with my uncle so mostly par 3s. Noticed a big improvement in my ball striking after working through some stuff the first three holes. Hit more GIR than I ever have. Next weekend I will go out again and have him take some better video.

Thanks for posting the video. I'll echo a lot of the posture comments. Video is huge in being able to correct things like posture as we all just tend to get into a position that feels "comfortable" or "athletic." When we can actually see what positions we are getting in we can begin to make positive change.

I'm working on my posture at set up as well and it is slow going and it is easy to slip back in to that old "comfortable" position. Keep working at it and eventually the new correct posture will become your "comfortable" position.

You also get a little stuck in your down swing and stand up to compensate. Work on turning back through and getting to your front foot.

Keep at it and I'm excited to see future videos.

Here is a more recent video I was able to get someone to take for me. Hopefully the angle is better. I've been pushing a lot less and I believe I've improved my posture a bit but my contact is horribly inconsistent with a ton of fat and thin shots. Hitting my driver better than ever but can't seem to feel like my weight i getting forward with irons. This is a 5 iron DTL.

    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
