Cynical Peak is now taking "applicants" to beta test the Windows version of its Scorecard golf statistics application.

To Apply
Send an email to erik at the domain cynicalpeak.com with the subject "Scorecard Windows Beta". Include in the email your full name (first/last), your email address, and any other information you feel will help us to make a wise choice. We won't accept everyone - we need only 10-15 testers.

The Test
Beta testers will be asked to use the software as they would during the regular season. Due to the time of year, testers in the southern states will be given priority - golfers in the northern states would have to work a lot harder to "fake" or recall rounds to enter. Bugs should be reported via a web interface. A mailing list will be available for all developers and beta testers to communicate.

The Rewards
A free copy of Scorecard will be given to testers who submit a valid number of original bugs to be fixed to reward the active beta testers. All others will be given a discount. The beta copy of the software will expire shortly after the beta test concludes. Registrations are for both Mac and Windows versions of Scorecard and the data file format is the same - this will be a cross-platform application (and license).

Acceptance
If accepted, I'll let you know via email. I'll also add you to the bug tracker and to the mailing list.

I think I've got all the testers I need, though if you're still interested, "subscribe" to this thread and you'll receive a notification if I update it in the future.

    • Bryson got hit with a 2 shot penalty, after the round, for improving his lie on hole 5.  Here is a post on X, showing how he stepped on high grass when he was looking down his target line.  When they cut to the side shot, you can see how close he was behind the ball.  I think the R&A probably made the correct decision. You just have to be really careful when you are walking in the high grass, around the ball and where you are to make a swing.

    • Day 27 (17 July 26) - Normally an 18 hole day, but due to commitments abbreviated the round to 9 holes (played the back nine at home course).  Had a solid session where even the worst miss (tee shot off 18) was fully playable.  Shot a solid 39 (6pars, 3bogies) - not dbls, no three putts - just boring golf.
    • Overall, well said. People have to be very careful in trying to describe very complex problem in simple terms. In this case, it is a clear fundamental misunderstanding of Newton's 1st and 3rd laws.  To clarify more on the misinterpretation of Newton's 1st law. The exact interpretation of Newton's 1st Law....  "Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it" yea, a body will stay motionless unless a force acts upon it. An object will stay on its path of motion unless a force acts upon it.  I get it, complex physics problems are difficult. There is a lot of simplification done in most physics class when it is taught. A classic problem uses a frictionless surface. Projectile motion excludes drag and wind direction. Collisions are usually elastic. The golf swing is not a simple physics problem.  Yea, I think they got caught up the data on the graphs and are not truly understanding cause and effect.  If the golfer isn't first pushing into the ground, then the ground isn't going to push back.  The internal forces of the body create the motion, not the external forces from the ground. The ground isn't like what Psy uses to start his concert. 🤣 You probably need to be connected to the ground and have those GRF to help the body produce the motion you want. Your body has to move in the right way to produce the GRF which helps you move the body in the way you want. Body motion precedes the GRF.
