Help buying wedges

Looking to buy a new SW and LW wedge.(you can see why if you read my previous posting Buyer beware Ebay) I’m not sure which wedges I like better, between Titleist Volkey spin milled and Cleveland CG10, CG14 and 588. The lob wedge is going to be Titleist Volkey spin milled 60-4. The sand wedge is the problem should I buy a Volkey to match the LW or buy a Cleveland? Any help would be appreciated.

Seeing that you use Cobra irons ... i suggest you go for the Cobra M series wedge . These were manufactured to go with the SSi irons . They cost less yet have the best feedback on all Cobra wedges . Google feedback for Cobra m wedges and you will see what i mean .

I think it's very important to have some consistency in your wedges so I'd go with the Vokey. As you can see I have 4 CG12s and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

I play Mizuno Mp series wedges but If I had to buy a new set it would be Vokey Spill Mill, and I like the 60-4, Stick with Vokey's.

I am sure you are consider bounces because you mention that on the 60 degree wedge.

Where are you going to buy them from? ebay?

The new Mizuno MP-R wedges are pretty sweet. I had a chance to use them last week and they actually felt better than my Vokeys. It might be mental, as they are forged opposed to the cast Vokeys, but I thought they felt softer, and they did not tear up my Pro Vs as much as the Spin Milled wedges did. Check them out.

i agree with Ruckus. I play MP-R wedges myself, and Am getting my second set here soon. I like them because they are a little heavier than other wedge I have had. I also like the rounded head shape, and the ground sole.

Titleist wedge = not user friendly. 60 degree + 4 degrees of bounce = cambels chunky soup.

That being said Titliest makes great wedges (only if they would release the TVD) I'd be sporting an all Titty line up. I think that its very important to the same brand wedges especially if you have to ask. If you want to become a very strong wedge player I would recommend to get a SM56.14 & SM60.08 and get ready to practice.

Also Callaway has a very similar shape, but the MD grooves are just insane

My vote goes to the Titleist Vokey Spin Milled, with the Cleveland 588 running a close second.

I would get the same manufacturer / model wedges. Reason is that wedges are 'touch' clubs for accuracy and you want the same feel.

All the Titleist and Cleveland wedges are great. I was about to switch over to CG10s...even had a demo. But instead decided to do an exhaustive search to match my Callaway Forged+ wedge (designed by Roger Cleveland)...even had to go as far as to buy online from Golfio. Wanted that forged versus cast club head.

When I was swinging non matching wedges...swing tempo was slightly off. Feel at impact was off.

ps...CG10s should be considered...as they have been voted onto Golf Digest hot list...and they are being closed out and you can get them for $79. But don't let the closeout fool you...they are really soft in feel.

FWIW, I agree that it is desirable to have your wedges from the same manufacturer. I prefer the Titleist Vokey Spin Milled wedges. Do pick the bounce on your clubs carefully. I wouldn't get the 60.04. That will be a bit hard to hit. I would go for a little more bounce, which will make the wedge more usefull. I like the 56.14 for the sand wedge. Good luck.

Consistency is good. Duh.

Although I'm a Titleist loyalist, I go with Cleveland because:

They offer the lowest bounce options in LH wedges and those wedges just agree with my eyes. Tried the Vokey product line...

Bermuda grass, y'know? The 900 and 588 series? *cough* The 900 wedges? Oh my...

Bounce is an individual thing and it depends on how you typically use each wedge and the conditions that you typically find on the courses you play most often. For instance, using a lob with 4 degrees of loft from green side bunkers containing sand that is typically used by most golf courses (that don't host pro tour events) is not a recipe for success. However, from the fairway, it would be money.

The way a very low bounce lob wedge performs off the fairway depends to some degree on the conditions of the fairway and, to a large degree, on the skill of the golfer. Many mid to high handicap golfers just don't have the skill to wield a very low bounce 60 degree wedge successfully. I don't disagree in principal with what you're saying, I just think that, unless one is a very skilled golfer or intends to practice with the lob wedge quiet a bit, he should aproach with caution a very low bounce lob wedge.

I don't disagree. And how can I considering the bounce on my 58 is 8 degrees?

I recently bought a Mizuno MP T series (new for 07) 58-10 and it is Outstanding. Mizuno makes some Really quality stuff. Give them at least a look.
