Simply put, your impact creates better launch conditions for your 3W than they do for your driver right now. That's not a great shot with the driver there - it looks like almost a pop-up with a flip.

Suggestions / drills / shelve it?

Ground the driver in the center of your stance like an iron, then take a normal swing. It should feel like the bottom of the swing arc is where you grounded the club, and then you extend/reach out to hit the ball off the tee. Keep your head down through impact, just keep staring at the little patch of dirt. Also, exaggerating with a really wide stance can be helpful with this drill.

Anyway, this worked for me.

Well admittedly I didn't look in depth, I just looked at the driver swing and saw what I posted there. Do you have more good slow-motion swings in your Member Swing thread? Do you have more launch numbers? Can you spray the driver face with something or mark the ball and hit it with your driver and show us the contact location?

This little thing changed my shots with the driver dramatically. Plus 1000 for this tip. There is a center of gravity golf video that explain sit better. Try it ten times on the range and you won't be able to stop smiling.

I did indeed try this yesterday. Had 4 nice drives and 1 absolutely smashed. Love TST!

Today I hit 4 fairways at ~275 yrds each. So, I have found my problem: tension. Tension in the hands and forearms, which is caused by fear, which is caused by a lack of faith in my swing. So when I shut that down and swing loose and freely, life is good. The troubling thing with this is that I don't know specifically what is technically different about my swing under those conditions, which introduces some doubt, and I think that in pressure situations I'm still vulnerable. I need more knowledge of the physics at play to put my mind at ease and increase faith. I guess I'm a "feel" player.

    • Day 86 (26 Jul 25) - Down at the beach place, had kept the clubs with me after playing yesterday.  Spent time this afternoon checking them over and brushing grooves on the wedges and irons.  Spent a few minutes working thru the swing process…working in slo mo through backswing and proper weight shift.
    • . I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, 1 year consistently  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistent ball strike   I caught the bug about a year ago and have been playing roughly once a week. Have been getting better with my short game and putting but my ball striking from tee and fairway lets me down. Had my first lesson last month which identified an over the top swing compensated by an open club face. Have been trying everything to get on plane over the last month. Have found that using a bend and press into my left leg as the trigger for my downswing coupled with finding the turn and rotation in both my arms to release the club properly has helped my get nearer to the correct plane. Video below is where I am with it currently. Haven’t taken this new swing to the course yet! Any comments or suggestions are welcome  Videos:  I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year properly  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 av score
    • That's always been the deal. You put in the work hyper focused on ONE or at most two things, so that you don't have to think about anything except a single feel or the target or something on the course.
    • Blind squirrel finds a nut and putted well. no, I decided to play a round being athletic rather than paralyzing myself with swing thoughts. I have no clue if I was doing what I worked on. It was the last day and I was tired of freezing at the top of the swing not know if one of four outcomes were going to happen.
    • Day 299 - 2025-07-26 I spent 15 minutes practicing but it was almost pointless. It wasn't good practice. I was not really in it, but I put the time in. Oh, I did some chipping work before-hand, and that was good. I could have just left after that. 🙂
