Hi guys, long time lurker of the forum but lately my game (especially off the tee) has somewhat fallen apart so I think it's finally time for me to start a swing thread. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I've been Playing Golf for: approx 4 years
My current handicap index or average score is: not sure, never kept a handicap, typically shoot mid eighties to low 90s.
My typical ball flight is: has been inconsistent, lately been hitting with a very low trajectory pulling the ball
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: lately have not been able to hit my driver straight or with any consistency, been lurking the forums looking for things to try but havent been able to get it turned around yet.

First, I would check out this thread on golf posture. You could stand up a bit taller, and have your head looking down at the ball better.

Second, your stance is way too wide for the driver. If you look at your Face On video. At set up, I would move your lead foot towards your back foot at least 6 inches. You want the golf ball to be at least inline with your left armpit. Your stance width is making very hard for you to turn correctly. You try to make a good turn, but are restricted by your posture and stance. It also makes it very hard for you to get your weight forward at impact.

Thanks saevel, I tried narrowing my stance and changing up my posture as per the other thread you linked. Played two more rounds over the weekend and was still having some issues (mostly pulls and hooks off the tee with an occasional short pop fly). However, i did go through a streak of about 6 holes with great straight drives, so a definite improvement.

Also the posture changes seemed to have really improved my irons (albeit over a short sample)

I'll keep working on the driver and post an updated swing video when i get a chance.

Thanks

as mentioned before, stance might be a little too wide but IMO i don't think it affects you too much as I assume you are relatively tall and need a stable base. Rather, I think the ball is positioned too centred in your stance and you are leaving too much room between the ball and the clubface at setup position. Try to nestle your clubface right behind the ball so you can visualize the moment of impact and position the ball towards the left foot by another "ball" length forward.

Also, your swing plane is quite flat, are you a tall guy?

Thanks for the reply harris, id say im avergae height (6ft).

Next time I'm out I'll try out your suggestion of setting up the club face closer to the ball (now that I think about it you are right, I feel like when i set up with the driver i play the ball a bit forward but then still rest the driver head closer to the middle of my stance at set up).

    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲

    • Why wouldn't it have? It's not like you were playing it as a 145yd par 5 and made a 2 or something.  Or not like it was playing 50yds to a temporary green or something either.
