I am getting new wedges this spring as my Mizuno Mp Raw Black Ox wedges have been in my big for 3 years and are in less than ideal condition. I have narrowed it down to the Mizuno Mp-R and the Titleist Oil Can (not spin milled). I am a 1 handicap and am on my way down, so I definitely want more of a "players" wedge.

Opinions?

Hi Crafty, I own 3 MP-R wedges and 3 Titleist Oil Cans (56 and 60 are spin milled). To be honest, I like the MP-R wedges a little better, and are now in my main bag. I don't notice any less spin than the Vokeys, and they have a slightly softer feel to them. Have you tried each one? If you are not going for the SM Vokeys, I really don't see an advantage to the Titleist wedges, and the MPs are forged, if that makes any difference to you. Some say that makes the grind less durable, but you own a set of Mizunos, do you think that's true? Can't go wrong with either, but I'm sure that's why you narrowed it down to these two options.

Thanks for the input. I have just one more question. Does one of these wedges perform better or worse on open face shots. In the pictures I've seen, it seems to me that the Vokeys have a lot of mass on the heel and toe part of the sole, which would make it tough to open up... are they?

To answer your question, I have hit my dad's Mp-T wedges, which I believe are the same as the R's with the exception of the head shape. However, I have never hit a vokey and am basing my choice on its sterling reputation.

Ive always been a fan of Bob Vokey's wedges, and have played various versions of them for the last 8 years. The look is, in my estimation, very confidence inspiring. That being said, I think wedge selection is almost as "personal" as putter selection - whatever you "feel" the best with is probably what you will perform best with.

I have also always loved Vokey's wedges, I play a 50, 56, and 58 of the Titleist Vokey's and cannot say a bad thing about them.

everyone on golfwrx.com loves these, but they come with a price tag...

they look pretty sweet, especially when you go to the custom shop, but I'm not sure I could spend that much on wedges.

200 dollars for a wedge that I have never heard about, wow, they must be made of pure silver or go like 400 yards

yeah, I was pretty shocked when I first heard of them, but they are supposed to be pretty sweet, and they look pretty sweet. Go to the custom shop and build one... just for fun.

Also, remember a wedge that goes 400 yds would be useless, I just want one accurate from 130 and in. Two other expensive high end wedge companies are "Fourteen" and "Chikara". I will likely stick with my Clevelands, but it is fun to look.

Speaking of wedges, should the lie angle on wedges match your iron set?

Also, what flex are "wedge" flex on True Temper Dynamic Golds? I heard they were S200's. Can someone confirm?

I dont really like the look of the new cg14's, that damn yellow insert on the back of the club just turns me off.
