Hello TST!

I will be attending the Memorial Tournament, June 2-3. I'm looking for any helpful tips on getting around Muirfield Village:

  • Any favorite spots to watch from?
  • Convenient routes between any holes? (I've read a bit about Muirfield being particularly difficult in this aspect)
  • Can the entire course be walked from 1 to 18?
  • All/any input is appreciated!

I've only been to one tour event previously, which was the US Open at Oakmont in 2007.

Thanks in advance!

I live in the area and have attended a number of times over the years. There is a large parking area just east of the 6th tee where most people seem to enter. The course is spread out and not too compact. The 12th green seems to be a popular spot. It is a par 3 over water that starts from an elevated tee. There is a bar behind that under a tent that makes good bloody Mary's. The green at the 14th is also popular. It is a par 4 that has water in front. Both of these holes have nice embankments around the greens for good, stadium style viewing. I recall siting just beyond the fairway bunkers on the right side of #1, which is a long par 4 uphill. Not too many people around and my son and I were enjoying being away from the crowds. A ball plops down beside us and a few minutes later we see Ricky Fowler approach us as he pushed one into the rough. Also check out the practice tee. I enjoy spending an hour or so there seeing some great warm-up routines and ball striking. Enjoy!

    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
