Ok, well I am thinking of getting a new driver, as my current has too much loft and the shaft is too flexible. So I am going to upgrade to something in between 8.5 and 9.5* Driver, using a stiff shaft (Probably a graphite design Y-6+ as I like them). So the next choice is the head. I am thinking of

-Titleist 907D2
-Taylormade Superquad/R7 460
-Ping G10
-Cleveland Hibore XLS.
I am looking at a quite workable/players driver as I will be using it for a while.

Anyone who could give me some reviews or thoughts on these would be great.

Personally, i've hit both HiBore and R7 Super. I'm leaning towards the HiBore, but im waiting for the T'Made CGB R7 MAx Driver to drop in price.

I would strongly recommend the R7 460 or the superquad. Both are forgiving, long, and slightly workable. Choosing between the two is a matter of aesthetical preference, because they are almost the same driver as far as performance.

THe YS-6 is a great shaft as well.

Out of all those I have found the HiBore XLS to have the fastest ball speed and for me the lowest spin rate.I would recomend the G10 as well. Also the YS-6= shaft is a mid trajectory shaft. If you are looking for a lower ball flight you want a shaft that has a high kick point which is a low trajectory. You dont necessarily have to go to a lower degree driver to get a lower ball flight, that shaft plays the biggest part of the club.

I do have a Bias towards the 907 Titleist, as most of my other clubs are titleist. But I have read a lot of good reviews on HI-Bores, except for that they have very closed face but the tour versions have very open faces?

Is this true?

The only problem with the CGB Max driver is that you cant set it up neutral. What most people dont know is that it comes from the factory with the face set up for a 15 yard draw. You can also set it up for a 30 yard draw or a 5 yard fade. I really dont know what Tmade was thinking with this design but being able to set it up neutral would have a better feature.

SO you use the new Hi Bore xls, what do you think about it compared to other Hi-bores and also what is the stock shaft like?

Wow, i didn't know that at all. thanks for the heads-up. I personally think that is the wrong move. i personally love the neutral set up, as i think it offers the best workability for moi.

so i take it that you can't change the weights then??

Good, I am looking for a mid/low flight with low spin for a lot of roll, which sounds like what you are getting with the VS proto, which I also love.

I had TaylorMade r7 460 prior to my r7 SuperQuad. The reason for change is because I hit straighter and longer (also more workable) with the SuperQuad. I guess that'll answer your question?

I honestly don't think you'll need CGB Max with that handicap of yours.

Well, as a Titleist man myself, I would definitely look at the 907 D2. Another one to look at is the Mizuno MP-600...this kicked the D2 out of my bag. Both perform similarly, although you can find longer drivers, as these both are average in length.

It seems the focus should be more on shafts, however, if trajectory is important to you.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
