ESPN reports Knight has resigned as T.T. basketball coach immediately.
It will be interesting to find out what prompted this; apparently details haven't been released yet.
Any ideas or rumors?

Wow, definately did not see this coming...good luck to him in the future.

I lived in Lubbock from Age 11 to 25, as my Dad was a business prof at Texas Tech. He became friends with Bobby and helped him recruit players through the business school.

Folks at Tech new this was coming, and are excited about seeing what Pat Knight can do with the team. Pat is suspected to be less rigid than his father in style, which will help to recruit certain players. Most people think that Bobby retired 2/3 through the season because he wanted to give Pat the reigns while the team was doing well (they were 12-8 when Bobby retired.)

Unfortunately, Pat started with a loss to Baylor tonight. Baylor is having a hot year, so it isn't a surprise.

As a Texas Tech alum I have very mixed feelings about this. I'm really disappointed that after 6+ seasons our team is not more competitive. At the same time you cannot deny the national attention that has been brought on the program.

At first I was very negative towards his son Pat taking over the coaching, but so far he's impressed me and seems to be trying to bring new things to the program, things that RMK did not do.

For instance, at tonight's game they are turning off the lights and doing the snazzy player introductions prior to the game. Bob would never go for this, but the kids like it. Little things like that should help recruiting. Overall our pool of potential players got a lot bigger with Bob out of the picture, because a lot of kids just would never consider playing for him.

Happy Trails Bob Knight...... You will forever be The Greatest college basketball coach ever. Your championships, Big Ten Titles, Undefeated Seasons, and career wins set you above the rest. I will always cherish your time as a coach here at IU....

    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
