So after 9 years off the golf course, I have decided to try my swing once again. Hi all, I am from the far western suburbs of Chicago and recently joined as I want to get back into playing golf again. I played for many years from the mid-90s through about 2010, then gave up golf for a while. I was an OK golfer, mostly mid to low 90s scores. I played mostly in golf outings, fundraisers and political stuff like that. Then 2 things happened that caused me to quit. First, the wife and I had our first and only child in 2009, so not a lot of time to play anymore. Second, I was at a golf outing in 2009 for a sports organization ( I used to umpire high school baseball and referee amateur hockey for them) and after 9 holes I was walking out of a restroom on the course at the turn and I got hit in the head with errant ball, very hard. Turned out no serious damage, but I spent 2 days in the hospital and it hurt...BAD. No one seemed to care and I even had to call my own ambulance at the golf course. It really upset me greatly so at the next garage sale, I sold my clubs.

Well, fast forward 9 years and with my daughter older, wife home now and with much more time on my hands as I only work 2 days a week now, I decided to take up the game again. I went out and purchased a standard set of golf clubs and hit the range. I went out for my first golf game and wouldn't ya know it I shot a 59!.....of course it was only a 9 hole course. So I have started seeing a PGA pro and he has made a world of difference. I already traded in the standard set of clubs that were the wrong flex and size, and got fitted for a set of irons and a new driver. The set I purchased was a Wilson Deep Red, but getting fitted and buying the new set of Taylormade irons, proper length, grip size and in senior flex (i'm 51 now) has vastly improved my game. I got a Taylormade M2 driver and 3 wood as well. The Pro has changed my grip and worked with me on a much better swing and its really made a difference. That same 9 holes now I shot a 46. I did keep the Wilson putter, I really liked it, sold the rest on ebay.

In conclusion, that's my golf story and I'm sticking to it. I want to keep working on my swing over the winter with my Pro and hopefully join a local league next season since all my former golf partners are long gone and I'm golfing as a single now on the local muni 9 hole course.
