I was amazed at how many touring pro's had to qualify.

Might have a little outside in motion. This causes the face to come across the ball and put side spin on it. My $.02 Mike

Guys... That was a joke!! Sorry I should have put in little smileys!!

Whatever makes you feel comfortable. My point on the new swing styles is that with a conventional swing it is sometimes very easy for a friend or someone you are playing with to let you know what you might be doing wrong if you get a glitch in your swing. With a non-conventional swing, a specialized instructor or someone who knows the fundamentals of that swing may be the only ones you can rely on to fix the minor bad habits we all suffer throughout the year. Just merely a point to consider since you are new to the game. Not trying to sway anyone, but I always like to look at both sides.. Mike

Congratulations on that Jake. You should be proud. Mike

i-Guy, I could have swore Phil and Tiger have played in more then 5 US Opens in their career..??
-
I think it may be a break out for one of the younger guys. Sean O' or Camilo or someone in that range. I gotta feeling Phil will play well but his wrist will limit his "go for it" factor. Tiger, I hope, will have the birth of his child on his mind, therefore not being able to give 100%. But we'll see. The course looks great (on tv) and the rough looks like it is getting thick!! Mike

My money is on Annika!!

Erik.. I agree with you on most things, but saying that she is huge in Japan is not necessarily the truth. The fact is that most golfers in Japan don't consider her!! I know this because I have been over there for the past couple years. I do have first hand knowledge and I am fluent in Japanese, so I do know what they are saying. They feel like most Americans do about her. (Note: From the locals I talked to about this subject) She is a child prodigy in golf! She is from Hawaii, not Japan! (Big deal for the Japanese folks) She is a whiner (she's only a kid, so she can be) She may have a future in golf if led in the right direction. By the way, Nike is not that popular in Japan for Golf equipment like it is here. The big item products over there are Bridgestone and Mizuno (and subsidiaries from each.. i.e. Tour Stage, etc...). Nor is Michelle. Tiger is actually very much the only reason Nike sells at all over there. I don't want to start the usual fact finding pi$$ing match we have become accustomed to on these posts, but you always make sure that facts are stated in truth and I'm trying to help out. I know, I should have said "I couldn't care less" If she fell running backwards in a park and hurt her wrist, that's sad. She is a professional athlete and can't even run backwards without falling!! I guess coordination and golf aren't that closely related!! That was just for fun!! That should stir the pot Mike

I personally could care less about Wie. What I do find amusing though is why Nike paid so much so quick. She really hasn't proven herself, but that has already been covered in this thread. We do have to remember that her actions are a direct reflection of her age. I coach little league football and it amazes me how much more the kid that gets hit and fumbles the ball is injured compared to the one that didn't fumble it. It is a direct correlation between what kids see as a way for people not to blame them for their mistakes. Anyone with children know this. Once she stops acting like a child, then Nike and the LPGA should start treating her like a golfer. She "hurt" her wrist running in a park. Funny, I use my legs and feet to run!

Scotty Cameron, whats the big deal?
mike_pinto replied to PBCgolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am with you on this one Erik.. I would like to find that "better" product for less money. Let's take the money out of it.. If there were a "better" putter on the market, the majority of pro's would use it. Scotty already has 18 wins on professional tours this year alone. Cheaper, yes... Better, no way!! -
Tried it out alond side a Newport 2. Very nice putter, but still got the Scotty. Probably the name, but I really like it!!

OK.. I hate to revive an old thread, but I have to. I have used just about every putter on the block, always saying the Scotty was all hype. Low and behold, I gt a Scotty the other day and all I can say is WOW!!! Played 18 today with 26 putts. There is something to a solid putter and I think the Scotty is the most solid I have ever used. Well worth the money for me.. Mike -

Here Here. Tempo for me. I started off the year pretty shaky. Now I got my tempo back (a little slower each year) Like you though, I have to put out of my mind that when I was younger I hit a 6 iron 210. Now it may be the 5 or a light 4.. I am trying to get to a 2 before the end of the year. I am going to compete next year and would like to be as close to scratch as possible. -
Pretty good idea. Think I might try that one. Thanks.. Mike

Norm, When you find out how to overcome that, let all of us know. I know for myself, if I could get over a bad hole, I would make up at least 2 shots per round. 3 Deep breaths is what my wife says.. I've always been too mad to try it though!! Mike

Short game is great, unless it takes you 4 shots to get to your short game!! Golf is a whole rounded game. You can never be successful JUST having a long game, or JUST having a short game. The reason Tiger can get out of trouble is NOT necessarily his short game. I wouldn't consider a 220 yard 3 iron that hooked 70 yards around trees from the left rough a short game shot. He is great because he can avoid disaster by pulling shots out of his @$$. Everytime I hear someone say "Drive for show, putt...." you know the rest, it makes me laugh, as they are lining up their first putt for double. You cannot get great at putting or chipping and rely on that to score. I would say that most amatuers lose most of their strokes on long to mid irons. I will be the first to root against Tiger on Sundays, but I sure can appreciate his imaginative shots!! Mike

They shouldn't put 'em there unless they want you to use 'em!! I'll take 370 any way I can get it!!
-
Go for it!!! Hit 'em all and see what happens. There was a time when all that was made were blades and people of all skill levels played them, successfully. I say hit 'em!! Hit 'em all!!!

There are allot of factors involved here. For the Nay-sayers of the 275+carry, you might not want to snap to a judgment so fast. I visited my folks in Southern Oregon and played a little golf. I thought the course was mis marked after I hit my 3rd in a row 340+ drive. It didn't occur to me until after someone mentioned that we were at 4900 ft elevation, 0% humidity. Played in Colorado Springs (6100 ft) this year and they really fly up there. I played in Texas this year and couldn't get 300 with a roll. Oklahoma is about in the middle. I play with a guy who consistently carries his driver 275+ as well as I am about 90% on that yardage. But driving long is only a small part of this game..

As a thirty something capper, I would suggest lessons and range time. Be careful not to get sucked in to every Golf Channel tip of the week. Iacas said it once before, there is no one perfect swing for everyone (sorry if I mis quoted, but it was something like that). Find what works for NJ21 and stick to it. Lessons and range time are the only miracle cure for a swing. BTW, for the folks using the new swing.. Does your back still hurt or did that go away over time? Just curious.. Mike

I don't have them, but I have played with them. I was in Japan for about 8 months last year and played alot of golf. I would say that 30% of golfers over there play Bridgestones. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for a 6 handicapper. They seemed to me like they were straight/high hitters with little workability, It may have been the heavier air in Northern Japan or something, but I couldn't get the ball to turn over for me. If you work the ball alot and like the Bridgestones, I would check out the J33 Blades. I might even take close consideration to the Srixon line of Irons (I-506). That is another name you see abroad and they feel great. OK then self, why do I play with TM's if these other ones are so great? I had an issue with a driver and Taylor Made went way overboard trying to help me out before a big tournament overseas. I swore then that I would stick to them. I really like the R7 TP's.. Mike
