  1. Ah hah! Thanks Mvmac. That is good news. Now I can feel confident about getting it done,
  2. Please forgive me if this question has been asked before. Please point me in the direction of the thread that has asked this question already. If by some rare occurrence this is the first time this has been asked, I'll explain. I bought a used Mizuno 4 iron that does not match my Adams set. My 5 iron and 4 iron are the same length. I think that my 4 iron should be a half inch longer than my 5 iron. I don't think the loft can be adjusted on this hybrid style 4 iron. SO I'm asking how much will the standard lie angle be affected if I add 1/2 inch of length to this 4 iron? Thanks in advance for any responses.
  3. Just like Pretzel said, golf courses want your money. They "don't like" to give a single a tee time without pairing them with some one because that would be unsold slots. However, when it's slow, they ultimately want your money and they want you to come back and pay them again. As far as feeling awkward, there were several times I was paired with threesomes because they lost their 4th. By the 12th hole they were asking me if I'd be interested in joining them regularly. So try thinking of it as an opportunity to meet 3 new golfers. If you get stuck in a bad group, just go into Tiger mode (don't worry about them, stop talking, focus very hard on just playing golf and try to score low). Good Luck.
  4. Please search The Sandtrap (TST) for older conversations\threads on the 3Bays GSA, SkyPro, and SwingByte. We've debated this topic before. All 3 are great and each has their own specialties. Again, this has all been discussed before right here in the TST. I own a SkyPro and I love it. However, the 3Bays GSA is the cheapest golf swing analyzer (GSA) that will give you carry distance which is UNHEARD OF in any other GSA on the market. YouTube reviews also helps. Good Luck.
  5. I'm replying because your playing partners remind me a lot of me. I do exactly the same thing to speed up play. I am very happy to see someone actually cares about our enjoyment level when we play the game with them. So I will tell you the words I'd love to hear and maybe they would too. "I found a good golf course that we don't have to rush our shots or hurry up on, and maybe let a couple of faster groups play through so that we can have a good time." That will help put our minds at ease and we can better enjoy our round too. Thanks for the thread.
  6. I feel you there. I switched out my wedges for a more modern set and a different brand too. The bounce is less and flatter than the older set. I don't dig in too deep when hitting from tight lies as much as I did with the old set. The newer wedges definitely helped my approach (more distance and accuracy from taking less divot), pitching (easier to control and less duffing\sculling), and occasional chipping. All conforming wedges are not created equal.
  7. All the advice in this thread is true. The only reason why I'm responding is because of what David in FL just said. I used to beat myself up on the front 9 if I scored over +3 because I felt I was doomed to not break 80 by scoring over +3 on the back 9. So After scoring 42 on the front 9 and 3 birdies on the back 9 to card a 37, what David is saying is really more realistic. I had goals of making par on all the par 5's and all the par 3's. It didn't work out that way, but I made up for it on the back. SO if you get very close to the green in 2 strokes most of the time, work on chipping into the hole but not letting the ball roll more than 18 to 24 inches past the hole. Then 1 putt if you missed the chip. This has worked best for me. Also work hard on putting from the distance where your average 1st put normally is when you make a GIR. Good Luck.
  8. OH Yeah, this is very true. Earlier I mentioned taking the range finder to the driving range to improve your game by learning the true distances you hit your clubs. As MS256 is saying, it is a very good idea to guess distance before you laser it. You will train your body to "feel" the distance and you won't be TOTALLY dependent on the range finder like some guys I know.
  9. I don't think range finders are a waste of money. If you get one, make sure it has some sort of pin seeker tech that lets you know you hit the lenses on the pin. I am on my second range finder. When I miss the green, it's pin high so my short game is easier because I'm scrambling pretty much the same way most of the time. Also, I have playing partners who always ask for distance and it helps them make a decision quicker. Lastly, if you buy one, hit 20 balls with the same approach club at the driving range. Watch where they land, then laser in the center of them. Now you can pick a club more or pick one less club to avoid sand traps, water hazards, and false fronts. GPS aren't very useful at the driving range so the laser helps you practice and play. Good Luck.
  10. PhillyK, Thank You for sharing. It is a dream of mine to play in one of these. My handicap is way too high right now but it is still a dream. I will work much harder on my putting because my biggest weakness is reading greens. We always hear it, but to read it from someone who's been there is much more credible to me. Thank You. (I volunteer but can't play until many months after the event, so I always wonder what event conditions are like.)
  11. If your score is very important to you then you should bring your clubs with you. If cost is very important to you then you should call the golf courses ahead of time to find out their rental fees AND what clubs they are renting to you. If neither of these are important to you and you simply love to play golf then leave your clubs at home and enjoy your rounds away from your home course.
  12. 3Bays GSA Pro will tell you carry distance. All the other stats and measurements are great but knowing your carry distance is vital. Look at the previous post by Beachcomber. It shows the carry distance on the screen. Then read the post by my friend DaggerSA (he purchased the 3Bays GSA and we tested it and still use it) right after Beachcomber. I posted after that but I came back to add this information. For $199 you can't beat the combination of the Golf Swing Analyzer AND knowing your carry distance like a launch monitor. Go ahead. I challenge you. I don't know why 3Bays doesn't advertise that because the rest of the "attach to the club" swing analyzers must be combined with Trackman or GC2 (launch monitors) to see carry distance. SwingByte is great and syncs your swing with video of YOU making the swing. SwingByte is the best product in this category. If it gave us carry distance it would be PERFECT. SkyPro gives you GROOVE MODE so that you can copy your not so perfect swing that gives you the results you like. My 3 wood has 2 Alerts (flaws) with a 237 yard carry, 255 total yards, and 18 yards off center fade (verified by GC2 at Golfsmith). This swing is captured in SkyPro. Groove Mode allows me to practice that unique swing so my play and score gets better much QUICKER with MY OWN not so perfect swing. But it has no carry distance (yes I own a SkyPro swing analyzer). Good Luck
  13. Golfshot does not run down the iPhone battery like GolfLogix does. GolfLogix is a better product in my opinion but I have to put my phone in sleep mode and then wake it up ten yards before arriving at my ball (walking). I like all the information I get with GolfLogix so I put up with it. Golfshot is simpler and faster. Because I don't have to put the phone in sleep mode, the GPS adjusts to my position. No waiting for it to update my position. So when I'm playing for speed and not keeping stats (just yardage and score), I use Golfshot. Yes you can keep stats on Golfshot without wearing down your iPhone battery. I don't know why GolfLogix uses so much more battery than Golfshot. I stick with GolfLogix because it has all my years of stats and rounds. Both are excellent apps.
  14. Being a walker in San Antonio with over 50 rounds per year, changing hats and shoes (as stated in earlier posts) are pretty normal every year for me. However, I have discovered that changing the old grips every year are beneficial for me. It may sound crazy, but they feel like new clubs every time I change my grips.
  15. My Optishot works fine, even my driver works well after reading a post earlier in this thread years ago. I don't let any sunlight into the room and use incandescent lights. Judging by my swing speed, yardage is off by 4 yards compared to the launch monitor at Golfsmith (IF I trust that I had the same swing at Golfsmith as I did at home on the Optishot). You guys are saying it's an expensive toy at $299. Have fun buying the much more the expensive models to get the data and accuracy you are desiring. I doubt more than 3 of you will buy a P3Pro or better. The Optishot shows me the same ball flight I see in real life and is close enough distance-wise that I use the feedback in real life. Check my MUCH earlier post on how to use the Swing Groover with Optishot to eliminate the need for a net. I also got a 4x7 golf mat, and cut 3/4 inch plywood to the same dimensions and stand on that when I use the Optishot to make it level. Just like at the driving range. You guys have fun.
  16. And thanks for taking the time and effort to explain it to me. I truly appreciate it.
  17. OK. So there is no penalty. He had two choices. He could go ahead and putt his ball that he did not cause to start moving, or he could have halted his putting action, waited for the ball to stop, replaced the ball at the original resting place, then proceed. Both with no penalty. No further questions from me.
  18. OK. Based on Dormie1360's post, the exceptions are listed. But I consider water to be an element. So rule 14-2 confuses me. 14-2 . Assistance a . Physical Assistance and Protection from Elements A player must not make a stroke while accepting physical assistance or protection from the elements. 14-5 says there's no penalty when the player hits a ball that the player did not cause to move, but 14-2 says the player IS NOT to make a stroke at a moving ball?? What am I missing here?
  19. Dear rules gurus. My buddy says that he addressed his ball, started to putt, the wind blew his ball in motion before he could strike the ball with his putter. He continued his putting stroke, made contact with the ball, and "sent it" towards the hole. Is this a penalty? I've been looking for this situation described in writing from the USGA.
  20. Jspangler, I am talking specifically of the single digit and scratch golfers I've played with and therefore have observed their habits. They are not PGA tour/nor teaching pros. These are the guys I am "chasing" because I wish my handicap was as good as theirs. Just to clarify further. The low handicappers and scratch golfers that I have played with tend to use one device and it tends to be a quality laser range finder.
  21. I am trying to copy what low handicappers do. Of the scratch to single digit handicappers I see using these devices, I see more of them using laser range finders than GPS. I also see that they are not skimping on the quality of their gear. This is your thread, not mine so I will only say that I am looking for a laser range finder that includes slope and has pin seeking because that is what I see the low handicappers using. BTW, I have never seen the low handicappers using two devices during a round.
  22. You don't need a net for Optishot. I've attached a vid of me using 3 wood because the non-reflective bottom of a driver (combined with distance from the sensors when teed up) doesn't register very well on Optishot. Now I hit 3 wood and 5 wood better than ever. I am using the Swing Groover instead of a net. I posted pics of that setup earlier in this thread. Optishot is very enjoyable as I can play full rounds when it's freezing or raining outside and my game in the real world benefits from it. If you want a great Golf Swing Analyzer for less than $200, the 3 Bays GSA Pro will provide the following data; Consistency, Tempo, Impact Force, Club Head Speed, Ball Speed, Carry Distance, Face Angle, Swing Path, Back Swing and Down Swing Time. I posted more info on this in the 3 Bays GSA thread. No launch angles or spin rates but it's pretty awesome other wise.
  23. Seems you were fitted for the X22's?? If that is the case, then I agree with your logic on modifying/changing the lie angle, shaft, and grip (just do ONE club, preferably your best mid-range iron) to match the length and lie angle of your X22's. I would do this ONLY IF you are hitting your X22's flush most of the time. Make sure you keep the old A7 club shaft with the grip still attached so that it can be re-installed on the club you chose if you don't like the feel and performance. It's been my experience that the A7's are easier to hit than the blades and other standard clubs I've tried.
  24. The 3 Balls GSA (Golf Swing Analyzer) is a better product and costs $199. Please look for the 3 Balls GSA thread to find out more.
  25. My Adams A7 irons came with a "unique" 5 Iron, 4 hybrid, and 3 hybrid. If you can hit those three clubs with relative ease, then you should keep the A7 hybrid irons set. If you can't hit the clubs I just described, then go get fitted by a professional starting with your Callaways. The A7 6 iron - PW are easy hitting clubs with more offset than your Callaways so the 5 Iron thru 3 hybrid is the deciding factor in my opinion (IMO).
