  1. A Google search reveals Aldila bought the golf part of "G Loomis" and is using "Loomis" to sell shafts with the names of football teams on them. "G Loomis" still makes fishing rods with a much nicer looking website then the golf shafts.
  2. Golfequipment18 is selling counterfeit clubs. They offer 50% "discounts" on brands that do not allowing discounting. (Most likely Burners, and definitely Titlist, with Scotty Cameron putters being the most faked clubs of all.) The name Golfequipment18 was a clue to do a Google search on them. Another clue is their use of the English language. (worse then me!) The Internet is full of sellers of counterfeit clubs.
  3. The swing itself has merit. I found myself doing the first parts waiting for a slow group to play through. I was taking diviots like in the book. Then I "lost" it. The book it's self is a horror! It would have been nice if they hired a ghost writer and photographer. (I'm not buying the DVD because I read it's more confusing then the book.) There's no pictorial sequence of the swing! There is a sequence with a guy not holding a club and somehow I'm to take his steps 1-2-3-4 and make a swing out of it. Very Confusing. There's lots of pictures and explanations of whats not stack and tilt. Teaching me what I'm not supposed to do??? Whats worse is trying to find someone actually DOING the swing on line. Not talking about it, just doing it. Then I can watch and learn like a kid does......by example. Anyone have a link to somebody swinging?
  4. Used Sporting Goods stores like "Play it again sports" are good for finding kids gear.
  5. Once upon a time, long ago, I was bowling my ball without a thought about taking lessons. Then an old man at the range taught me how to swing. In a few hours I went from 160/180 to trying to break 100. A few simple pointers did more for me then my pile of golf magazines, and books. At the 9 holers and muni's I now play the average player doesn't have a 18 handicap. The average player never took a lesson. If they stopped playing Mulligans, Birthday Balls, and Gimmes they would be lucky to break 120. You Tube and Watching Golf on TV: I turn the sound off, music on, and watch. That's how children learn. (Surfers too!) Note to teachers: Tell me what to do...... don't tell me what not to do! It's confusing. Note to authors: Don't fill your book with pictures of bad swings, and "Brand X" swings. It's even more confusing. What I find a major turnoff is instructors more intersted in defending their techniques to their critics then teaching me. (You Tube is full of this!)
  6. I always carry a glove in my bag....maybe someday I will wear it.
  7. Thank You.....I never would have thought of that.
  8. I buy what I hit best. In your case I would go for whatever has the best resale value. I think that's the Pings. All 3 brands have their advocates. Someone playing the Pings is not going to say I should have bought the Clevelands. But, you will probably end up saying I should have bought the Titlists since you already consider the Pings and Clevelands to be second best. Spend the money and buy what you really want the first time. It usually ends up being cheaper in the long run. --------------------- My irons are expensive and broke my budget. What they are is not important to anyone else, I hit best with them. To buy them my wedges and woods are used, and I'm lucky in that I like $11.00 Bulls Eye putters from the junk shop.
  9. Soft Winn Hero's are going on whatever shafts I switch to. They are already on the Titlists and feel a lot better then the stock Golf Prides that came with the clubs.
  10. Not needing a putter I didn't look closely.
  11. > I'll add some Hollywoodism. You can't see it....you can't feel it....yet it's all around you....welcome to the Matrix. What is there about this place that makes you think any ball flight laws are real. Opps! Gotta go, the blue pill (or was it the green?) is wearing off.
  12. Too many! Thats more then 10 balls per hole for 18 holes! Even a first time beginner gets to walk a few feet between shots. Slow down and let your muscles (and thoughts) recover.
  13. I need the graphite for vibration reduction and not ball height/spin, or swing speed. My wrists hurt (even with a clean hit) using my Cleveland wedges with True Temper Gold's. I'm playing graphite "A" flex on my Tiletist AP1's. (I love the 45 and 50 that come with the AP1 set.) For 56/60/64 I need my Clevelands. I hit them fine, it just hurts more. I wonder if the heavier head of a Cleveland on an "A" would make it too whippy. "A" or "R" ?
  14. A few days ago Sports Authority (a chain) had Rossa's $100 for 2? (or a price real close to this)
  15. Thank you for that link. That's the kind of information I have been searching for. Some instructors are local and Headquarters is only an 90 minute drive!
  16. I think this applies to golf clubs in general......... Scotty is a marketing genius! Stick a pool cue in a potato and if it has his name on it....it will be collected.
  17. I'm already playing a soft "A" shaft, soft ladies ball, soft grips. See a Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, Diet (starve) to keep weight off the joints and all the usual adjustments to fight off the living grave of a sofa and TV. I have worked out a swing that lets me fly the ball 100 yrds with a wedge.....knees locked with no pressure on the left ankle at the finish....using centrifugal force instead of muscles. I'm interested in how others are playing golf with ruptured discs. Bone spurs. Frozen joints. Hands that constantly tingle at best, and lock up at worst. I would like to hit a club past 150 yrds. Those long par 5's are killing me!
  18. I would play the ball from all those locations I avoid during a normal round. Try out the sand traps, deep rough etc. I would also hit different clubs. Driver or a 3 on the 7th hole, that sort of thing. I suspect this is what the pros do.
  19. I use a Putter unless I have to get the ball in the air to clear something.
  20. I found myself giving advice in the forum today on the golf swing. I really don't want want to be doing this! But, I do know about bending club lies, and what weak wrists do to the rest of the swing. Instead I would like to share with others fighting the grand loosing battle. I will put off having to play "pat the ball" as long as I can. In looking for teachers....I find myself doing the teaching.....that's sad. Everything's orienated to stiffer shats, wonder drivers, and hitting 20 yards longer then last year. Anyone know where to go to share knowledge? PS: I am looking for an instructor whos willing to work with me. One that teaches on grass. (LA/Orange County)
  21. The following statement has nothing to do with S&T.; I don't want to be giving swing advice......but, there's nobody else talking about how to have a respectible game with a failing body. Weak wrists tend to uncock earlier throwing off the rest of the swing. One compenation is to take a longer back swing to give more time for the other compensations that may be occuring to deal with other physical issues. Not knowing what they are, I can't comment further. It used to be popular with good woman golfers is to take a long backswing to cover the early wrist break, and rise to the toes on impact for more distance. As I age and stiffen I find myself doing this.
  22. Topping the ball with a 4 deg+ lie sounds right if you have a conventional swing. Were you fit using a lie board? The 1/2" longer shaft is typical of whats being sold with new clubs. But the 4 deg lie angle is not, a lot of cast clubs can't be bent 4 deg. I would have your swing checked out again on a lie board before doing anything. It will take some strange compensations to make up for a lie that's totaly off. (While there are no set standards: 2 deg+ brings a modern club to the lie of 30 years ago, not 3 years.) Try a few swings with your knees locked, weight on heels, ball close to your body - if this works get the lie changed unless there's a reason for a "ferris wheel" swing path.
  23. Florida is the world capital of golf superstores and used clubs. Golfsmith in California only has a 10 day trial period on used clubs. 90 days on new. Rodger Dun is 90 days used and new. Keep in mind these are trade in policies....not money back! You also have the PGA superstores which I hear are huge.
  24. There's no standards because people are not standard. I'm 5'9" - short 28" inseam - long 35" arms. (This gives me the ideal swing....through the trees.) In order to hit clubs made over the last 10 years I need the lie angle changed. As far as drivers go.....forget it, there all way too long.
