i am suddenly finding it impossible to hit my driver. constantly hitting the ground behind the ball or just hitting bad hooks. not sure where i picked up my bad habit but it is there. while playing on saturday one of my playing partners noticed that i am lining up aimed to the right (i am right handed) and said this was causing an over the top swing. i get away with it on my shorter irons but the longer the club the harder it is to get back to square. anybody have some good drills to help with my foot alignment? he did say to make sure that my heels were in a straight line to the target and not worry so much about the toes. thanks for any help.

for me it wasn't just slowing the swing down but getting a consistent tempo. when i slice it is still a controlled back swing but a jerk and rush down at the ball. smooth transitionand and steady tempo help keep the clubhead speed up and the swing under control.

for me it is any shot from 100 in. if i have the feel and can hit those half swing lobs/chips/ bump and runs then i feel like i can make up for being a little wild off the tee. my putting has averaged about 1.7 strokes a hole this year so for me it is all about giving myself a chance to putt.

it is true that the "gifted" typically make horrible teachers. they haven't had to take the time to process what all the neat lingo really means. i played soccer for many years and finally decided to get into coaching. i was fortunate enough that a coach i was working with stopped me the first time i started saying "hips square to target" "plant foot aim" and any of the other thousand keys that came to me so naturally. he asked me to explain to him how i got there, where did the action start, and why each mattered. it opened my eyes to a truer understanding of the skill and what it entailed and to not just assuming something i take for granted is easy. it has taught me to start simple and keep the terminology simple with younger or begining players. to use words that anyone can understand and above all to demand that the players ask questions like "why". when i went to take my first golf lesson the pro spent about the first ten minutes just talking to me about my background, where i felt my swing was, and where i wanted to get to. when i explained that i was a coach and wanted things from the very basic explained in terms that a 5th grader would understand he had a nice laugh. he said that many of his students came in after reading golf mags and playing with friends and wanted his lessons to match the things they had heard and read. they want to hear "hip rotation", "thru the ball", "spine angle". they didn't care about things like balance. my whole first lesson was basic balance and take away to hip level. after videoing some practice swings he found that i had the clubhead at about a 15 degree angle away from my body at hip level instead of the whole club pointing to the target line. that one tip has helped me more then anything. when i start spraying the ball around i can just take a few slow take backs to hip level and it usually sets me right. the whole point of this post is that we the consumer have some responsibility to ask questions and see if this is someone that we can comminicate with. you don't want a pro that speaks from on high or uses terms you don't really understand. hunble yourself as a student so that you can learn but also demand that they teach and not just recite!

go to your local golf store. when i bought mine from golf galaxy i was fitted and that includes use of a lie board. i am 5'11" so standard length worked great for me. you do need to get some lessons. from here it is impossible to see how you hold the club, stance, or the angle you keep the club at.

a club fitting is always a good idea but i would also recommend taking some lessons. you may find that a simple stance and swing correction will solve the problem for you. i have the same clubs and have found them ver easy to hit.

i use golfnow.com and golfhub.com all the time. its not a coupon but a listing of discounted tee times at courses in your area. never had an issue and what is included in the price like cart and range balls is posted in the listing. simple to use and i have got to play some great courses at very reduced prices.

its easy to complain about the courses being built now but in the end companies are building what we ask for. i am from the denver area and when i first started playing years ago all i played was your basic straight up and down munis. when the 90's hit you find that even cities were building more difficult and scenic courses because thats what the people wanted. i have about 10 different courses within a 15 mile circle of my house that offer a wide variety of course style and most of the prices are within $15 of eachother. maybe the problem is that the basic munis decided to charge what the newer courses are charging. i also use golfnow.com and golfhub,com to book most of my tee times. it is rare that i cant find a reasonable price ($45 including cart during the week) at the "nice" courses. we the consumer need to take the steps of finding a price we are willing to pay for a course. when people stop going to an over priced course they will get the hint.

i use golf logix on my cell phone. when i get to the next tee it takes about 10 seconds to answer questions on stats. i keep score, putts and putting outcome, fairways hit, GIR, chips, sand chips, and penalties. i never look at stats during a round and will seldom even look at my score at the turn. i tend to combine the stats of 4 rounds to see if i have a trend going that needs attention.

i bought (at a great price) a superfast and then got rid of it after 2 rounds. if you check the length you will probably find it an inch and a half longer then your previous driver. some people have no problem with this but it just didn't work for my swing.

95 on a new course for me. 43 / 52. weather was great through 11 holes then all hell broke loose. wind and rained followed by hail. horn sounded to clear the course. after a 30 minute break in the clubhouse i just couldn't get back in a rythm. if nothing else it was a day outside with friends on a nice course. Ute creek in longmont, Co if you the reader ever wander out that way.

driver 3 wood 3 hybrid 4-pw 49 52 56 ( have a low and a high bounce that i can choose depending on course and conditions) anything longer then a 5i isn't a shot i am trying for a green with. i try hard to manage the course instead of letting my ego manage me. haven't got the swing yet, but i am working on it!

got a maxfli 56/12 wedge at golf galaxy for $40. i like the club.

i live in the denver area and use golfnow and golfhub all the time. i try to avoid weekends and have found some great deals for weekday golf. courses like omni for $40 including cart saves about $80. easy to use and allows me to play many courses and some of the more upscale courses and still live in a budget. i get emails daily from both sites with the daily deals.

the golf logix does give gps yardage, you can also get an aerial view of the hole. (great for doglegs on a new course) the starts part you enter in after you finish each hole. it will record your whole round, you can measure distance of each shot and record the club. it allows you to track grass and sand chips around the green and will let you track tap in, short, medium, & long putt miis or make for a "putting outcome" stat. stats : GIR # of putts putting outcome chips sand/grass fairways hit score penalty strokes it does a pretty good job

91 yesterday. 47 + 44. FH. 10/14 (the good) 34 putts (the bad) GRI 5/18 (the ugly) some wind to deal with but i was just not aiming well. the good news is i picked up a new maxfli 56 12 SW that i was able to use very effectivly. i havent got to the skill level where a $120 vokey wedge is justified. the $40 maxfli was nice. played Thorncreek in Thornton, Co. the course is not even in decent shape. 5 minutes from the house and i doubt they will see any of my money again this year.

i have golf logix for my droid based phone. it keeps most stats you would want. fairways, gir, sand shots, chips, sand chips, putts and more.the other nice thing is that you have a record of all your rounds on the site. they compile all your rounds for average stats and give stats per round. it has been nice to see the trends both good and bad in my game. yardage has been within a yard or 2 of the handhelds that some friends have.

i have the diablo edge irons and love them. being a mid to low 90's golfer myself it is nice to have a club that can give you decent shots on slight mishits. the feel is good and the ball flight is awsome. all that being said take your time and go hit all kinds of sets. find the ones that feel comfortable to you and get fitted! good luck and good shooting.
