  1. heres is the scenario. You are in a fairway bunker. Your shot hits a power line. Based on local rule, you replay your original shot with no penalty based on rules 20-5c. Can you rerake the trap before you drop? search all over the rules of golf of this one and cant find a rule or decision on this one.
  2. When you guys set goals for the upcoming golf season, do you focus on the outcome (the score) or what it takes to get there. For instance, one of my goals is to get my handicap index under 2. Should that be the goal by itself or does it make more sense to get intermediate goals like - hit one more green in regulation - reduce penalty shots - improve sand shots by x?
  3. How many of you have your shafted Pured? (I know SST Pure is the leader but there are a few others). Can you tell a material difference? Thanks
  4. after reading all of the responses, I think there are several different issues here. 1) Should the PGA solicit input from fans? 2) Should there be a statue of limitations on imposing penalties? 3) Should players be informed of potential violations before they sign their card? I think issue one goes to the heart of this question. However, 2 and 3 are about how to operationalize the process, which seems like is what most of the debate is about.
  5. My take is somewhere in the middle. I have no issues with someone from home bringing up a potential rule infringement and don't buy the argument about how it hurts some players more than others. I still have two major issues, both really around the statue of limitations 1) I dont believe players should be able to be DQs well after they have signed their scorecard. If this had happened on a Sunday and he had won a tourney, the victory would stand. 2) I believe that if the PGA is going to be soliciting input from fans at home, then golfers should have the right to be informed of these rules prior to signing their scorecards, just like they would if there was an actual rules official. The PGA incident with DJ is how this SHOULD have been handled.
  6. Is anyone else very impressed by this knockdown no-wrist cock swing he has been using on alot of shots this week. Makes me think about hitting this type of shot ALOT more. Also makes me thing of teaching this type of swing to a beginner.
  7. Tried to call and email. can't get a hold of a real person. If anyone knows a way to get in contact with them, I'd appreciate it
  8. Love my new Adams driver, but it has one small issue. After every few hits, there is a small vibration between the plate on the head and the sole of the club. There is a place to tighten it but don't have the appropriate wrench. I can tighten it up with a tee. But that is not a long term fix. Spoke to the guys who fitted it for me and they said that Adams doesn't provide any wrenches with their clubs. Anyone else had this problem?
  9. Looking to find a charity to donate some lh women's clubs which were almost never used. Anyone know any good charities which would put them to good use....
  10. I took the challenge by myself on sunday evening. (playing in 2:25 no less). We just had a ton of rain so I made the executive decision to play lift clean and place in the fairway. This was probably offset by the inconsistency of the greens. Par 71. From the tees I usually play: 6600 yards; 71.9 rating/134 From the tees I played: 5700 yards; 67.5/121 Scores I usually shoot; between 76 and 80; though my last two rounds were high 80s-- been really struggling with my driver What i thought I would shoot-- even par 71 What I shot-- 68 (-3). Stats summary: Greens hit: 14/18 Fairways hit: 9/14 (includes 2 balls pin high on the rough on driveable par 4s) Putts: 28 with 2 3 putts Par 5s: -3 Par 3s: +2 Par 4s: -2. Eagles: 1 Birdies: 4 Bogeys: 1 Doubles: 1 From a course management perspective I took the following approach. Every hole I was either going to try to drive the green or lay up to 115 yards (my favorite distance, perfect gap wedge)-- no exceptions. Tended to work well for me. Probably hit almost every club in my bag off the tee.
  11. Wow. Just wow. 20 yards longer than anything I'd ever hit. Not the best feel on the club face and goes a little too straight, but for distance and accuracy as good as anything I've ever hit.
  12. Everytimeeq. Just above the ground. Slightly higher if i am trying to work it a lot.
  13. i shake hands off the 18th green or while walking off. doing it on the green would be frowned upon because it would delayed the group behind you.
  14. great post. here is my list of top 5 course management mistakes i see people make on a daily basis. 1) not aiming for the center of the green. I would argue that no double digit handicap should ever do anything but aim for the middle of a green and most of the time single digit handicaps should do the same. 2) hitting 3-wood too much. Yes, I'm serious. Given the technology in drivers, most people i play with hit their driver better since it is more forgiving. 3) Not playing a hole backwards. Leave yourself with a shot to the green that you have more confidence in. While I agree with Iacas' point that for many players 40 is better than 100, you should still give you a shot that you have confidence in. In other words, never leave yourself a half wedge unless you have confidence in. 4) Not chipping out from jail. This is how 8s happen. Trying to hit a shot thrugh a ridiculously small opening. 5) Hitting the wrong short game shot. Hitting 40 yard chips with lob wedges, hitting gratuitous flop shots, chipping when you should putt. people dont think of it as course management but for me it is the most basic part there is.
  15. poipu was actually a big disappointment for me. didn't compare to either princeville course or even kauai lagoons
  16. I'll pick Louis for another reason -- his driving game and distance. This makes him a contender at the PGA and masters every year and the british when it is at st. andrews and a few others. If either of them wins another, it would likely be the PGA and i think louie has more game at those set ups.
  17. two quick questions on the position of knees in the full golf swing. 1) do your knees touch on the follow through 2) on your finish.. is your right knee ahead of parallel to or behind your left knee in relation to the target?
  18. watching the british open actually made me think of a rules incident which occurred last week. (And before you say, 'look it up', I tried and can't make heads or tales of it). Here is the situation. slight wet day, hit a gap wedge into a par 4 which embedded directly into a downslope of the green. I mark the ball, fix the ball mark. When I try to replace the ball it won't stay in one place since it is on a downslope. What is the ruling here?
  19. If he shoots 2 under, i'll win. An average score for him out there in non-tournament conditions is around 5 or 6 under. I know i'd need to shoot 6 or 7 under to win.
  20. My daughter is turning two soon and want to get her a golf club or two for her birthday. Does anyone have any recs? Should i get her a fisher price type plastic club or cut down an existing one? Before anyone calls me Earl woods, she is taking a natural liking to golf. She regular swings any clubs i have laying around and can hit the ball more often than not. (and sometimes hits her head with the shaft in the process.
  21. do you go through your normal preshot routines when you play with friends? I always tended to play worse with friends and then the only thing i thought about was ensure a good preshot routine
  22. I probably wont take four swings at every ball, especially off the tee. If i hit a drive 280 in the fairway, i'll stop because i know i won't be doing much better.
  23. i don't disagree with any of you. My take-- he has the edge, but I have a chance. (probably about 10% if my putter is on fire). I think if i could play up a couple set of tees, I would have a slight edge. Biggest issue for me that I would basically be giving up a shot on each of the par 5s since I cant hit in two and he probably could (at least three of them). Plus some of the longer par 4, i'd be hitting hybrid and he'd be hitting 7 or 8. The biggest edge for me would be putting (which is my strength anyway). I have to think i would make nearly everything inside 20 feet with four looks at it.
  24. Here's the proposition. Some of you may know that I am friends with a regular on the PGA tour. (not a star but consistently in the top 100 in $$ every year). I'll be visiting him in a few months and we've been discussion a potential bet. Here is the bet. Stroke play Pro vs Me with the following conditions. - Played from the tips at Grayhawk in Scottsdale where they host a PGA event. (would play about 7400 yards) - Pro plays his own ball but can lift, clean and place in the fairway. - I (a 3 handicap) play a 4-man scramble with myself. (e.g. I get four attempts at every shot). Who do you think has the edge here?
  25. all, just wanted to pass on a new golf exercise i've been using over the past few weeks which has made a material impact on my ball striking. I've tried lots of exercises over the past few years and most have done more harm than good. But this one really seems to work. In the past few weeks, my 8 iron distance has gone from 148 to 160 and i can't attribute it to anything else. ---------------- A simple power golf exercise for your core is my Seated Twist w/Dumbbell: Sit upright in your chair. Hold single dumbbell straight out from chest with arms fully extended. While keeping your head focused straight ahead, rotate your arms to the right, then to the left as far as you can go both ways. Do this non-stop for 20 total rotations. Pause for 15 seconds and repeat 2 more times. At first you will feel very restricted in your midsection. That's a sign of how limited your rotational flexibility really is. But do this exercise daily and you will see improvement quickly.
