  1. short game short game short game.yea seriosuly though the short game is golf like more than half your shots will be from 100 yards and in. Aim to get up and down in 2 from 100 yards and in and you will see a massive drop in your scores. You could probably shoot mid 80s with a decent short game a lone. Your swing will come in time. whilst you are working on that you should really get lessons with a pro. but dedicate more time to your short game. when learning golf you should work from the green up i.e. putting, chipping, pitching, irons, tee
  2. my putting has really been up and down lately. somedays its fine other days its a shambles. id hit it 7 feet short or 7 feet past.yesterday I musta had about 5 3 putts. Im desperate to break 70 this year really really really want to. I practically hit every green yesterday or was just a couple of feet off them. im using the odyssey white hot tour the black and yellow grip which is very soft but I like that however what im noticing is that within about 15 feet or so im fine but anymore than that it goes tits up. with my last putter it was the opposite I was good long range crap middle ok short. it was a two ball white hot steel which is a good bit firmer. could it be anything to do with the putters?
  3. it would be a waste and pointless to get another one with the same bounce it wouldnt provide you with any more options. you need to work on your technique a bit more and make sure your hitting the ball first. Having a lob wedge is an important club I never stopped using them.It is your other option to hitting of tight lies which is one of the many things you can do with it. It is the easiest club to hit in the bag being the shortest with most loft definately keep it you will use it more when you get better.
  4. im in the same position as yourself and am considering the 909s simply because they are good and much cheaper than the newest ones. the dcomp is 460 cc composite for higher handicappers its the most forgiving and aims to get the ball up high. the 909 d2 is the intermediate one where its 460cc is still forgiving but allows a bit of workability it has a high launch low spin. the d3 is for the lower handicappers and tour players. its smaller with 440 cc and deeper. its for workability with low to mid launch with low spin.
  5. The reason why you are shanking is because you are coming over the top.in the video you can clearly see that your right shoulder is coming over and out. This can be because your hitting at the ball with your arms and hand. You should be starting our downswing from the bottom up. Try and swing in to out a good drill is to hit shots with a head cover under ur arm and dont let it fall out. another one i think is if you put a golf ball under ur right heel that also helps.
  6. a 27 degree will not go that far. a 5 wood is 18 degrees a 3 iron is 20, 4 iron is 23, 5 iron is 26, so that will be replacing a 5 iron or so. The idea of a rescue is to replace longer irons because they are easier to hit and more versatile out of the rough. You will need something with about 20 degrees of loft for that distance for you. Or you could learn to hit your 3 iron and 4 iron with more control i.e. higher.
  7. im looking for something similar myself and have seen the titleist 909 d3 or d2 and im dying to try it it should be perfect
  8. If you re grip it will cost you a fortune to get them all done and you will not know for sure if the same thing happens. Generally when ppl order clubs its best to get them customed to what grips you want. Id personally just stick it out and not complain I never wear a glove. Even just wear a glove
  9. More loft on a driver creates more backspin/less side spin which in turn will create a higher ball flight and straighter shots. Which in turn means less roll. However a shaft can do anything really, high kick point shafts are used to generally keep the ball lower by reducing spin. Low kick point shafts are used to generally get the ball higher by helping to create more spin. Its important to get the right shaft also. Its definately better to be on the fairway 250 yards than blocked out in the trees 270 yards. If you want more distance you need a higher swing speed. try get fitted
  10. Ive never been able to hit my driver consistently the r7 quad. However I recently got a 909 f2 fairway with the voodoo shaft which I find perfect for me I believe its 70 odd grams. Ive always prefered lighter shafts in my driver to get more swing speed so recently put in a 55g nvs which is now ballooning but i still like the weight however now ive got an out to in swing i believe because its a driver and i always "try" to hit it far rather than let the club do the work. Im now thinking of going for a heavier shaft like 70g as well to maybe give me more control and keep me in sync well that help?
  11. since I recently got the 909 f2 fairway which I absoultely love and find perfect for me im considering the 909 d2 or d3. Does anyone know if there will be much difference between those and my current r7 quad ht first thing is that they are at 440cc mines only 400cc. I will try and test one on the monitor and the best thing is that they are a lot cheaper than new drivers.
  12. kk thanks for the info il have a look around and see what i can try and take it from there
  13. Thanks for the replies yea I see what you all mean. There are holes on my course I would benefit with a driver definately but its just the cost of getting one and properly fitted which is extortion about £300. I would really like to try a 460 cc like the supertri. With a driver par 5s are gimmie birdies practically which will help but the cost is the thing holding me back ideas to get cheap ones?
  14. I think there is a setting on it L which closes the clubface on it id give that one a try first. Whats your thoughts on the club and the shaft. Im considering getting a new driver but dont think its worth spending so much
  15. Ive always been a player of course management and keeping it in play and using my driver on holes only where its needed etc. However ive got an r7 quad which ive never really got on as well as ive wanted to with and now that ive put the nvs in it it balloons all the time so im thinking of ditching it and just using my new 3 wood from the tee. I played for like two years without one and just took a 3 iron of the tee or driver when safe. Would it be in my interest to buy a new driver? I can hit my 3 wood 250 yards which is decent but then again a driver would be further.
  16. The course can depend on what clubs to use as well. I carry a 52 56 and a 60, have a driver, 3 wood and 3-pw. I dont have any point in carrying a 5 wood it is useless to me ( i use a 3 iron instead) and the short game is much more important to me so the extra wedge is much more useful to me. Its best having the most useful clubs in the bag and most versatile.
  17. Im struggling to find the perfect combo for my driver r7 quad ht never really got on well with it came with the nv 65 and hate the high kick point and stiff tip. Currently just the other day got an NVS 55x which is nice and forgiving I like the weight but even in the x it still has a tendancy to balloon still have to test it more though. I got a 909f2 with the voodoo in regular and absoulutely love it its perfect.Rather than just buy that shaft for my driver il b better of just buying a new one or even second hand one with it in it.Any suggestions? I dont mind the vr pro, like the superdeep and supertri would like something newer and forgivingish. Trying them out is also pretty much impossible over here there is virtually no selection and hate the monitor cause Id have to hit into a net with ppl watching which gives me no feedback watsover.
  18. No ive never really been fitted properly. I have used the thing once though (5 years ago) and hated it simply because im hitting into a net with ppl watching with no warm up shots etc, it said I was hitting a 7 iron 175 yards and back then that wasnt possible. My swing speed with driver was 100 avg. There is very very little I can try over here and there is little choice in shaft selection if any. I really do like the voodoo its perfect in my 3 wood I dont really like the look of the 909 driver though otherwise probably woulda settled on it. I tried the vr pro in a fubuki shaft and its ok feels nice and springy but would probably hit it better with the voodoo but again that wont be possible so I dont know. Is there really a lot of differences in heads?I like the super deep but i cant try it with the voodoo I dont know what to do.
  19. I have a good swing but my game suffers due to inconsistency from this. Somedays my set up is perfect and feels great and I can swing normal and good however other days off the bat my set up feels terrible and it throws my swing off resulting in bad shots. I have a consistent pre shot routine however for some reason my shoulders always end up pointing right which really throws everything off. Please can anyone help me with this problem. I recently changed my routine from gripping the club then walking in and aiming the club to walking in aiming the club and then gripping but now its came back. My routine is as follows and i do this every shot. stand directly behind ball picture shot etc find a mark to aim over. Walk into the ball set club down aim it grip it ( i think its this point here it goes wrong, they just drift of right) then build up the rest of my stance around the clubhead.
  20. Its not that big of a problem to fix although it is a complete pain in the ass. I do it myself as well and am currently with my driver because I try to hit it harder some times. Anyway the best I have done which helps massively for me is to put your head cover in front and slightly behind the ball at address ( ie. when you are facing it NOT between the ball and the target line) it should be about 2 inches or so away but try and get it as close as you can so your club doesnt hit it before you swing. Now you are swinging out to in so you WILL hit the head cover. Just hit the ball Without hitting the headcover automatically you will begin to know and feel you HAVE to swing in to in which is the way it should be otherwise you will hit the headcover. Keep doing that the less you hit the headcover the more you will get a feel for swinging in to in or in to out. Ive noticed that it also helps my timing as well big time.
  21. Ok I got an r7 quad ht cheap about 5 years ago r so with the aldila nv r65.Thing is Ive never really got on well with it and hated the high kick point shaft.I then tinkered with the idea of buying a new driver but didnt think it would be worth spending so much so just recently bought an nvs 55 x cheap to try because I like cheap and prefer lower kick points. Ive only tried it once and it diffenately has helped forgiveness as I thought it mite even though I was swinging it terrible. However it still has a slight tendancy to balloon even with the x stiff shaft. I got an f2 3 wood in the voodoo shaft regular and absoloutely love it the shaft is perfect. So do I just pick a driver head I like and get that shaft put into it? im thinking of the supertri its bigger and more forgiving? would that work I will try my best to test it but things like that are scarce.
  22. the shaft is too stiff or a big swing problem or both. getting a stiff draw driver will actually make it worse. Look for a softer flex shaft, that will do the job try seniors flex and I would recommend an aldila nvs. If the shaft is too stiff you will get weak low slices if too soft it will be high and left. It could also be your swing. You are probably swinging out to in so check all your alignment etc is good and see a pro.
  23. The difference in the blur shaft is really just weight the 60 is lighter than the 70. Just pick whatever grip you like the most they are all good.tour velvets are nice
  24. Hi yea I totally agree with you Ive never got why people buy so much new equipment. In my opinion a lot of people do it just to buy the next new thing and to be noticed for it, its an ego thing i think. Studies have shown that with all this advancement in technology it has done virtually nothing to the average handicap. There is a guy in a golf shop near me and his clubs were really old and his handicap was 2, about ten years old they were. I asked him if he was gonna change soon and he said no wasnt really any need to. There isnt really much point in it, they cant swing the club for you so I dont get why people buy so much so often. It gives them a slight confidence boost as well I guess then when its over time for a new driver! However with the likes of putters and wedges I think it can be beneficial because groves wear down, different feels etc. Another time for a change I think is going from beginner irons to better ones but thats all i can think off. I recently got blades and will be planning to hold on to them for as long as possible the same with my driver and fairway. The only thing i can see changing is my wedges when they wear out or if I find a shaft that will make my driving better. Its all marketing and it totally works.
  25. Bounce has nothing to do with the way the ball spins. The reason why the ball is not spinning for you is down to the ball your technique and your wedge grooves. A softer ball spins more generally, better technique is better and good sharp groves help spin. Bounce is used to help you hit out of bunkers and rough. It is measured like this - when a club hits the ground it will "bounce" back of it. The higher the bounce on the wedge the higher it will bounce of the ground. This means it is really easy to thin the ball of tight lies with high bounce but really easy to hit out of bunkers and rough when the ball is sitting up. This is why the sandwedge has the most bounce. A sand wedge with around 12 degrees of bounce will be good for you and if you have a L wedge or G wedge it is really personal prefrence. If you will be hitting those from the fairway go for a lower bounce around 6 or so. If its too low it will just dig into the ground.
