Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA -- incredible stuff
-
I took piano lessons in elementary school and switched to guitar in 6th grade. Took classical guitar lessons in high school and college and also played guitar in rock bands during those years. I played trumpet throught junior high and high school and also picked up French horn in high school. Played trumpet in the Marching Owl Band (MOB) at Rice U for 3 years. I'm also a big fan of making music with found objects (yes, I'm a geek!). --Will

I'm afraid I can't comment on the Titleist clubs you have, but if you are having trouble with them I would recommend trying out used Callaway irons. I have Big Bertha X-12's that I bought new several years ago and they are great clubs for a high handicapper. They are very forgiving clubs, although better players say they lack feel. You can find a set pretty cheap on ebay, but you should definately try before you buy. If you have a Golfsmith or similar store near you they will probably have some used X-12's you could look at. I think the most important thing is to decide if you are having trouble hitting your current clubs or not. --Will

Wow, that was really horrible. I made it through about 45 seconds before I gave up. --Will

I recently got a Ping Moxie set for my 8yo son. It is a really nice set. I don't think they make anything for smaller kids, but the Lynx stuff at Golfsmith looks pretty nice. My son used to have a cheaper kids set we got at Academy, but didn't use it too much. --Will

2005 Volvo V70 2.5T. Mine looks almost like the pic with different wheels. Nice to drive, good pickup with the turbo, holds tons of stuff, and I can seat 5 kiddos in the back with the fold up 3rd row. --Will

Staff Bag with Name on it (but not staff)
hoopshot replied to CallawayAddict's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would call Callaway and ask them. They say on the web site that you can get a custom logo on the Belly Panel of the staff bags. --Will -
This discussion reminds me of the quote from Lee Trevino. If you're caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron. Good enough reason to carry a 1-iron? --Will

Oops, spaced out there. I meant to say first event. --Will

I don't usually like to get involved in political discussions, but I think people are talking about two different points which are both somewhat correct. I think that it is understandable that she could have been in this picture without thinking about how others would see it. After winning her first major she was probably very overwhelmed, and if someone said, "Sit here and we'll take some pictures," she may not have given it any thought. I see no reason to take this as intentional disrespect of the flag. However, the fact that it may have been innocent on her part doesn't prevent it from being offensive to a lot of Americans. I think an apology would make a lot of people feel better, and is the right thing to do. I think the LPGA shouldn't have let this happen, but the responsibility has to rest on Ms. Gulbis. --Will

Welcome, Ron. I'm a little bit closer to you in Southwest Austin. I'm not much of a golfer yet but I'm working on it. --Will

That's a really cool video, although I don't think it was all done in 1 take. Still really impressive work (and good use of duct tape)! --Will

I just got a Cleveland Launcher Ti460 driver for my birthday, and I went to the range yesterday. I don't have a really fast swing speed and was getting really good drives from the club. You can pick them up for $149.99, although you may have a hard time finding one to try out locally. I got a 10.5* with Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue in R flex. I think the shaft is helping me get a good launch. My better hits were landing around the farthest marker at the range, which is 230 yards. --Will

Driving in to work this morning I had the iPod on shuffle, and got a really great mix of things: Dance Hall Crashers, Devo (2 in a row), Eels, David Bowie, ELO, Bryan Ferry, The Magnetic Fields, Ben Harper, and Miles Davis. Albums I listen to recently include Guided by Voices, Bee Thousand Dandy Warhols, 13 Tales from Urban Bohemia Shins, Wincing the Night Away I also started listening to the GolfSmarter Podcast and the one from this website and really like them. --Will

Need help finding new woods
hoopshot replied to fluxcapacitor's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This may be a dumb question, but will a hybrid cover the same distance as a 3 wood? I don't have any hybrids, but thought that they were usually used in place of 5W/7W or 2I/3I/4I. For this initial question, I think you should try to demo 3 woods hitting them off the deck. I've found a big difference between clubs for me when I do this, and I think your swing dynamics are really important here. I loved the Launcher 3 wood off the deck, but it may not be a good fit for you. --Will -
Boy, Sergio missed a bunch of putts that he needed to win. It looks like he just couldn't get a handle on his nerves. That putt for birdie on 18 looked like it was going in.

KJ is looking good after 2 days at the British Open! Here's hoping he keeps playing at the same level on the weekend! --Will

Where Can I get Little Tees Like This One?
hoopshot replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I haven't seen any that look like that, but you can get Tracer Golf Tees that are 1 3/8" long. One place is here: http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/tracer...acer-golf-tees --Will -
Which munis are you playing in Austin? I agree that it can be really frustrating when the green quality is costing you putts, although this summer has been pretty good so far (with all the rain). --Will
-
Yeah, he is having a really good year. It would be great to see him win a major. I was watching the highlights on the Golf Channel, and the folks on Golf Central Primetime said that they thought KJ would be much bigger in the US if his English were better. I think they meant in terms of ad appearances and fan support. To me this is not an important factor, but I was wondering what y'all thought. --Will

If the name on the picture is correct (Carolina Llano), the U.S. Women's Open site says she was born in '84. Ogle away!
-
That is really going too far! Is this just for the U.S. Open, or is it a rule at the course they'll be on next year? I could see the PGA saying they don't want to encourage bad habits, but even that seems silly. Having a no smoking rule at a golf course makes no sense to me. --Will

I need some wedges.... suggestions?
hoopshot replied to Scott L's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You can pick up a Cleveland 588 Gunmetal wedge in 56* for $69.99 right now (at any number of places). I tried one a couple of weeks ago and really loved it (and bought it). I haven't played with it yet (it's been really rainy in TX) but am hoping to get out tomorrow morning. --Will -
www.golfdiscount.com had a good selection of the Cleveland Launcher fairway woods in stock this morning. I ordered a 3 wood and a Launcher 460Ti driver for my birthday. --Will

I went to Golfsmith yesterday and tried out a Cleveland Launcher 3 wood. These are discontinued and the price has dropped to $99.99. It was really easy to hit and I had no trouble getting a good launch angle (and I'm not a good golfer). I'm not sure how easy it would be to find one in stock somewhere, but you should check them out. I think they've been replaced with the HiBore woods. --Will
