I splurged on a customized towel from https://www.playerstowel.com/ . While I don't disagree that a regular towel does the job just fine, the microfiber material they use on these towels really does help pull away the dirt without having to get the towel wet. It is also really absorbent, so when my hands or grips do get wet this thing whisks away almost all moisture. I wasn't really sure about the putter slit option but ordered it anyway. Know that I am used to it I take my towel with me on every chip and have made it part of my routine, like a putter head cover. Overall, these towels are worth the extra coin. I've used mine all summer and it has been holding up great. Quote: How is the "tour" towel $59? Looks to do a great job but that's really out there.

Titleist CB 710 versus Mizuno MP-52
FryemanTX replied to Finer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm in the same boat and leaning towards the CB's since I love my DCI 981's but lack the feel of the newer player's iron. These clubs felt really strong and more forgiving than expected, I don't think they are a stretch if your swing is fundamentally solid. For me, my handicap is a 12 because of my driver and putter not my irons. -

Whats next for the Taylormade in 2012?
FryemanTX replied to Made 2 Taylor's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would like to see a cross between the R11 and the Burner. Personally, I don't feel the lie and loft adjustments are something I would use often enough to justify the purchase since I have no problem shaping shots with my 09 Tour Burner. I did like the way the club sounded and felt it was slightly longer than my current driver. The new Burner did not feel as solid even though the shaft was fixed, maybe this is due to the head shape and additional weights but I'm no engineer. -

FryemanTX replied to ranjanis's topic in Fitness and Exercise
Disappointed I didn't win but congrats. Look forward to hearing about your fitness progress and how it translates over to the course. For the rest of you like me who didn't win, Men's Health has some new golf specific exercises that seem to be great for flexibility and core strenght. I added the swiss ball cable rotation to my workout yesterday and last night it felt like my hip turn was much stronger and most of my drives were 5-10 yrds longer and straighter! Again good luck and congrats. -
TaylorMade Penta vs Titleist Pro V1
FryemanTX replied to bigbear43's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I agree with everyone about the spin difference and have not been able to decide which is better for my game so I have been switching between the two this season. I do feel that the Penta is slightly more durable than the VIx even though the 2011 VIx is greatly improved. This durability factor makes the Penta a better ball for me since there are so many trees on our course but I would recommend trying them both and making the decision for yourself. -
We have this side card game that is usually a fun side bet to any round but can affect your strategy at times. There are 12 cards and the object is to get rid of your cards by the end of each nine. On the 1st and 10th tee everyone draws 3 cards and when another player does what's on your card you can give it to them, in many cases adding insult to injury. We usually just play for $1 to $5 a card but my dad's buddies play for a $100. CARDS: Water Ball Tree Ball Sandman Condo Ball (Any man made structure) 3-Putt Big Divot Wimp Ball Lost Ball Missed Double Bogey "I can't believe you missed that Putt" Just Because (Wild card to be given away on 9 or 18) Free Pass (Deducts one card from your hand) Some of the cards are open to interpretation, usually someone argues they hit a bush not a tree or about the size of a divot but it's all good fun. We had a bunch of these decks laminated and passed them out at a big charity scramble. Its a fun game that usually starts out slow but can get really competitive once the cards start shuffling around! We play wolf a lot but also have "Lone Wolf" were you call it before you tee off and get 3 dots if you win but loose 9 dots if the other players win the hole. There is also the option to "PIG" the wolf if the Wolf hit a bad shot and you crush it down the middle then you are going wolf for 2 dots but again can loose 6.

That looks pretty cool, nice work. What kind of paint did you use and was there any prep work done to the driver before applying the paint? If it holds up I would consider painting my dinged up driver white as well.

What kind of Pitching wedge do you use?
FryemanTX replied to FryemanTX's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for all the feedback, I think I'll stick with my current stock wedge and keep using my GW for the more finese type shots. -
Almost ever iron discussion I've been reading is hating on blades on the site and I agree that my game is not yer ready for them. But I am hitting my Vokey wedges really well was thinking about grabing a 47* to replace my standard PW. Is this common becuase I don't see that many options out there?

Interested in Scratch Golf Equipment? A Poll
FryemanTX replied to shotly's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Please post up when you do, I have their 60* and absolutely love the soft feel of the 1080 forged steal! -
I've been looking at this set as well and $200-$250 is what I've been seeing them at as well. What are the difference between the 690 and 710MB? Would the 735 be a better option?

Regardless of his off the course antics, I still respect Tiger and think he has brought great attention to the sport. Sad he won't be able to play, watching him try to pull off a comeback at the Master's was exciting!

What type of insoles do you find work well? I'm worried they would slip or slide under the force of a full swing. How do you like the TRUEs? I've been seeing them a lot recently and I'm tempted to give them a shot this summer.
-
I agree with this but my home course is only 6,700 from the tips. Since I moved back my scores have improved and I avoid certain water/buncker situations. This does require a longer iron on most par 3's (6-7) but I feel it is appropriate for my driving distance. When I'm not at my home courses I play the blues to avoid slow play and allow myself the option to lay-up if I don't know what kind of trouble lies ahead.

Currently I'm sporting the Adidas 360 3.0's which have served me well over the past year, I've probably worn them for around 50 rounds and at the range 50 times. I have enjoyed the comfort and stability of these shoes but recently my feet have begun to hurt. I was curious what everyone considers a standard life for a pair of shoes? Do you replace every year or by number of rounds?

Jerry Kelly dresses as TCU Superfrog to settle a bet
FryemanTX replied to GaijinGolfer's topic in Tour Talk
This was hilarious and big news here in Fort Worth, 'the little sisters of the poor' are becoming fairly mainstream! Sorry for your loss but on that day TCU proved to be the better team. GO FROGS! -
Personally I don't feel I'm good or consistent enough to game the ProV but if money wasn't an option it would be my ball of choice. I normally buy the Bridgestone e6 because of my inconsistencies off the tee and the durability of the cover. But this past weekend I played in our clubs quota tournament with an older sleeve of ProVIx 392's which my father gave me out of his bag, I have to say you can clearly tell a difference in the spin on approach and chip shots. A few of my chips would not release so if I was to play this ball I would need to change my short game strategy but off the tee I was getting a ton of roll on my drives. Is it worth the additional $20, that's hard to say but I did shoot my best round of the year, 86. I only lost one ball both days but destroyed 3 off of the tree's and 1 to the cart path. These were the older ProV's so I am interested in trying out the free box of new ProV's we won during the tournament and seeing if they hold up. One of the other guys we were playing with kept switching back and forth between the Penta and ProV, he thought he was getting more distance out of the Penta but the ball was not holding the green as well. So I think this will all come down to resources available and personal feel, I plan to continue to use the e6 until I am consistently in the low 80's and keep saving that extra money to put towards lessons.

I feel they are worth the hassle to protect the investment, I do not replace the cover on my driver though since it does not get hit by any of my other clubs. Some of those collector covers on eBay are ridiculous but I'm mainly ranting bc I'm jealous and too cheap to spend $100 on a cover.

How Much for a Custom Scotty Cameron?
FryemanTX replied to JD616's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't have a Scotty but the PutterLounge.com seems to do a lot of work on them. This type of restoration may be slightly cheaper but I believe it voids all warranty with Cameron and they will not touch it after you have modified it. It's an option but may not be right for everyone...
