  1. He chocked.. in my opinion.. His tee shot on 15 with a temporary 5 stroke lead was to do anything BUT put it in the water.. He should of used any club in his bag to take the water out of play, even going long would of been ok.. Then on 16 in the middle of the fairway at 190 out, he puts it in the sand FAR to the right away from the flag.. It was like he was scared of the pin placement.. We go to par 3 , 17 and he then 3 putted from a distance that shouldn't of been 3 putted with a lead.. Running his first putt 12 feet past the hole was just crazy.. CHOCKED.. 18 was just horrid as he played to "NOT LOSE" and went long deep into the green.. He was lucky to not 3 putt that hole and end up bogeying 4 holes in a row.. Playoff he starts off missing a simple 3 footer for birdie.. Go to the 17 and AGAIN 3 putts it putting his 1st putt 10+feet past the hole.. HE JUST did that 30 minutes earlier.. Terrible.. To me he played those last 7 holes at 4 over par.. That is not championship play.. He chocked.. It can happen to anyone, but I wouldn't deny it tho..
  2. Our group, we just play ready golf.. Whoever is ready, picks up the flag, or tee's off.. There are times the man that won the previous hole just isn't ready to tee off, we just play, if you are ready, go ahead.. Anything that speeds up play, being considerate to the golfers behind us, is a good thing.. There are times that waiting for someone to putt that is further away, would seriously slow the pace.. Just use common sense is what I say :)
  3. Also don't forget that .. correct me if I'm wrong.. nothing more then a double bogey counts towards a USGA handicap.. If you are notorious as I was about 10 years ago.. I always had one "oopsie" hole in a round.. Usually from doing something dumb like trying to carry 230 over water to make the par 5 in two.. ooops.. hit the shot a little fat, scull a shot over the green and you're staring at a triple real quick. or worse.. LOL
  4. Well done.. Well done.. It's ok to boast at times.. I did when I first broke par in 1 years time.. You just need to remember not to brag endlessly about it .. Keep up the good play and remember to always have fun.. It's what kept me sane when my back disallowed me the future I wanted.. But oh well.. Life is full of what ifs, should of's , could of's and would of's.. LOL
  5. I've always used the "first one in gets the pin".. You've putted out, and nothing to do while the others finish out.. I traditionally pick up the pin and wait if I'm the first one that putted out.. It speeds up play IMO, which is always a good thing :)
  6. I don't see what the hub bub is all about with Tiger.. Really! There have been many pro golfers in the past and current that have dealt with FAR MORE serious issues and distractions then Tiger has, yet no one gives them any excuses, or even talks about it.. For example: Tiger's distractions are a walk in the part compared to what Phil has and is going thru.. Then we look at what Hogan did and suffered thru, and take a look at his record that equally suffered due to WW II.. Tiger is having typical issues common in pro sports.. Personally I don't care for the "media's pet" attention Tiger gets 24/7.. There is a lot of talent out there, which this PGA Champ just showed, lets give them the spotlight they deserve :) I find it hypocritical that the press made an issue that Steve W. didn't give Adam Scott more attention and credit for winning the Bridgestone.. Yes, Steve was excited at the moment and made some impulsive comments.. HOWEVER, the media has constantly given Tiger attention when others are more deserving.. ?????? All day Thurs and Friday that is all I heard from the media.. Lets move on, and lets promote golf, not Tiger.. Tiger is NOT golf,, The golf industry is suffering from some serious issues, Tiger isn't the answer..
  7. Because I want to give the US the best chance to win, that makes me a Tiger Hater? Tiger has dropped from 24 to 28th in cup points.. He'll probably end up over 30th by the dead line date.. There are many more players deserving to be on the "all star" team then Tiger at this point.. It would be one thing if he was on the bubble in the top 15 and has had moments of glory.. However, gone all summer, no play time, failed at Bridgestone and PGA.. When was the last time a Captain spent one of his picks OUTSIDE the top 20? let alone someone sitting at 28th.. ?? Just curious
  8. I'm a little peeved at Fred right now.. I have always been a fan of Boom Boom, but if he picks Tiger as a captain's pick.. GRRRRRR.. Tiger has no right to jeopardize the team by accepting a Capt's pick.. Freddie shouldn't even be giving Tiger the option.. I will LOSE all respect to this match if Freddie only picks Tiger because of possible TV ratings.. There are a handful of golfers right now that are easily out performing Tiger, and should be given first consideration.. If fact if I was a guarantee spot, I would demand that those more deserving get their opportunity to shine.. Tiger is currently 24th in points.. There are a handful of players as well that are nipping at his heels, and are OUT performing Tiger coming in the homestretch.. Players like JB Holmes, Dufner, DA Points, Kim, Woodland, Verplank..
  9. So if we don't praise the ground that Tiger walks on, it makes people a hater? Not sure what is worse tho.. a hater or a fanbois.. In my opinion both are equally dangerous, because they are both biased blind.. I see nothing wrong with someone being critical and questioning ones skills or actions.. Shouldn't all news people or talks heads give you both ends of an argument?
  10. JD.. Shame you live in Youngstown.. I belong to a traveling league and we have a 30 week schedule to hit a new course each week.. It has always been a lot of fun.. We golf mainly in the Akron / Canton area.. I love your list, and have very similar names.. There are some names on your "like to do list" that are the same as mine.. A separate small group of us are trying to add more "hits" to our 30 course list, and if you are interested in joining us or staying in contact via email.. send me a message.. We normally 99% play on weekdays.. All we request is that your handicap be less then 50... LOL , and that you are able to laugh at shots, especially your own.. LOL I play close to scratch, but the average gangster in our group shoots in the 90's for 18..
  11. The thing is.. the PRO's demand to not play on the North.. Straight from the directors mouth.. North is more challenging and has far more penalties for errant shots.. Personally, I would love to see the pro's play the north, but that only happens if for some reason South has condition problems..
  12. Boring? no way.. Trust me Firestone is anything but boring.. I've played both North and South and found them challenging.. Both courses require accuracy off the tees.. no doubt.. West course has HUGE fairways compared to the the other two and much shorter.. There are plenty of elevation changes to keep you busy, which you can't see from the blimp, or even from the TV cameras.. Best way to experience Firestone is to just be there :)
  13. This is going to be a tough course.. over 7400 yr par 70.. OUCH.. A lot of carry over water on many long holes.. I wish Richie well,, BUT.. I think my favs are going to be Dustin, Ryo, Adam and Rori.. All have shown me to hit it long and straight..
  14. Zippo.. I have the worst luck.. I've been golfing for 30 years, and been a 2 handicapper for 28 of them.. I've played thousands of par 3's in my life and never got lucky.. I've had my share of eagles, and even scared the hole a number of times for double eagle.. BUT.. No Acers :(.. OK I'm sad now.. Someone toss me a beer.. lol
  15. True.. true.. I forgot about John's loud pants.. Lets not forget Ian P. attire as well.... In any case, to me it was just silly for the Master's to allow Ian or Payne to dress they way they did.. but demand that Rickie's hat not be backwards during an interview after play.. Logic is mind boggling.. I think it was more personal, then professional..
  16. My 2 cents.. 1) Firestone is more then just straight holes side by side lined with trees.. Trust me, I've played it and watched the pros often.. There are plenty of elevation changes.. Aerial views are quite deceptive, even live camera shots don't give you the true feel of the course.. anyways.. 2) Not sure why everyone is taking a shot at Stevie about his interview.. YES, I can see how some would say it was taking a dig at Tiger.. but is that fact, or just ones biased point of view.. Imagine being employed for over 10 years, feeling like one of the elite employees in the industry, then out of no where, you're fired.. Would it be a shock to you? Would you question the reasoning behind it? There are no answers to why, just that, "it is what it is".. Then you are picked up by a new company and within a month you are promoted to management level once again.. Would you not consider that one of the most important promotions in your life? I would.. Why? Because losing a job as Stevie did, one might start doubting themselves, or questioning what they did wrong to deserve it.. This win with Adam Scott sure was a confidence boost to both the player and the caddy.. I'm sure to both of them, at this current time, this win was the best for each.. Lets not stir the pot more, and be just as guilty as the people you are pointing fingers at..
  17. Rules are only rules when nothing else is stated.. Just keep in mind that if your group or organization, wishes to make adjustments to the rules PRIOR to play, it's all good.. In other words,, If it was agreed upon that certain traps are deemed unplayable due to water.. NO penalty is issues and relief is allowed..
  18. exactly.. we do allow this many times in sand traps in Ohio.. For some reason come August we get a lot of the ground hornets that make their nest in sand traps... FREE relief.. thank goodness
  19. It's still silly none the less.. To demand that I hat can't be worn backwards is just silly..
  20. Last two weeks.. at 4 different courses.. I recorded a 73, 73, 72 and 73.... I know.. What's up with the 73s? I'm already placing bets that I'll shoot 73 again this coming week at a different course.. I belong to a traveling league that hits new courses each week, and we never repeat the entire year..
  21. I think it all depends on the individual.. I have never paid for a lesson and shoot almost scratch.. I'm sure there are parts of my game that needs tweaking, especially since I can't watch myself.. BUT, no way I would spend the dollars that some of these instructors want.. Supply and demand is in play.. As long as the demand is there for the instruction, economics will set the price.. IMO..using my regional cost of living.. (which has a lot to do with $$ as well) Golf instruction shouldn't cost more then $40 an hour..
  22. I've seen that too OP.. I always tip the service wherever I'm at.. It's just courtesy and proper rather it be on a golf course or at the local diner.. But I see people stiffing the waitresses all the time as well.. It's just a shame.. What you should of done tho.. was take out your wallet and TIP her yourself.. This would solve 2 problems.. It shows to the beer cart girl you appreciate her so she comes back to you later on.. and maybe it encourages your buddy to be more alert of the tipping manners :)
  23. I think a lot just depends on the type of course you're playing and the weather conditions.. When I play on coastal courses that have predominant winds, my high loft clubs can give me fits at times.. Sometimes, if not most you want a low trajectory when you have winds to deal with.. But then there are times I play courses that high loft gives me an advantage because I'm able to carry hazards or go over obstacles like trees with no issues.. Do you play target golf or rollerball? It's all relative..
  24. Good thread.. I want to toss in my 2 cents if I can.. I grew up here in the Akron area, and always loved "TWSoG" at Firestone, but in recent years I don't care for the direction it has taken, nor do a lot of others in the local area.. The Firestone event has grown in size, and has now become a guarantee bonus money event for the elite.. (no cut).. Back in the 70's and 80's it was no biggy that there was other events at the same time, because Firestone's field wasn't all that big.. I can see now it has become a problem as it has encroached on to the toes of other events.. Should Firestone become "the main event" for that PGA ? IMO they need to think of either doing exactly that and cancelling the Tahoe event.. (which would be a huge let down to the local charities out west), or cut back the Firestone field to that of what is used to be (which would give Tahoe more golfers and a stronger field to promote).. Right now you have a tug of war between Firestone vs Tahoe.. Personally I think these WCG events was a bad move.. but that is just me..
  25. For me and my daughter.. It's Rickie Fowler.. I loved what Payne did for golf, and I find it equally exciting to see the new breed coming to age.. Rickie is good for the game.. We need more young blood, even if they have that "emo" type look, or whatever they call it these days.. We need to attract that next generation and Tiger isn't going to do it.. lol Rickie, Rori and Dustin are our best hopes.. Ishikawa? is another for the young east fans to support.. I will have to say, I found it very silly and stuffy for Augusta to "demand" Rickie wear his hat a certain way during an interview.. Are you kidding me?
