  1. This reminds me of a joke - "How do you tell the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?" answer below On a porcupine the pricks are on the outside. Hehe, my dad drives one so I hope no one takes it personally.
  2. Finally decided on my new set of clubs. My neck will fall out waiting for these babies.
  3. Here I am watching, or have in the background, reviews of the John Deere Classic...
  4. Running and any other "in place" routines are boring and you will tire of them easily. I am a pretty decent squash player so that is what I do for cardio. Since you already do weights that is great. You must know the benefits of a balanced work out regime: a balance of cardio and weights. I would play some squash (should be able to find a court around you somewhere - try squashtalk.com - run by my friend's dad) and then do some endurance/lightweight lifting. The calories burned from the squash (not to mention great hear workout) coupled with the metabolism triggered weightlifting will help you target fat to burn. Do this steadily 3 or 4 times a week for 2 months and you will be golden.
  5. Watched Transformers last night with the old man. I thought the action was pretty good and like how the Transformers were realistic "personifications" of their animated counterparts. I would imagine some kids would be scared of even the Autobots because they aren't "cute" at all. Thought the action was good and the computer simulation was pretty awesome. They obviously deviated from the original story a bit: all the Autobots and Decepticons are American made machines etc. Also one thing that bothered me **** spoiler below ***** is that they made a big deal out of Bumblebee's getting captured and cryogenized, and de-limbed, but when Jazz was killed he just gets an honorable fleeting mention. Jazz is awesome! (even though he is a frikkin Porsche turned Solstice) Overall the movie was well made, the plot was OK but then ending was kinda abrupt - better than movies where the villain is destroyed three times only to unrelentlessly twitch a finger and proceed to get up- but its a little too abrupt I feel. The more I think about it the the aura the Transformers give, since they are realistic rather than cute animations, was a good decision. Any person on earth would be intimidated by ENB's (Extraterrestrial Non-biological Beings), Autobots and Decepticons alike, and that is how they are portrayed. I would give the movie a 7 out of 10 - good action movie to just go and watch. The only thing I am left thinking about from the movie (although they try to engrain the phrase "no victory without sacrifice"), is just how amazing machines have the potential to be. What the average person perceives that intelligent machines can do is already amazing and what top secret machines can do is unfathomabe to the average Joe. What is even further ungraspable is how much further machines can and will be developed in the near future. It's almost scary, just like the Transformers.
  6. I just realized my poll is sexist. The third poll options should be my wife's husband's domain. Excuse moi.
  7. Phillips Academy - Andover, MA class of '01!
  8. Have been debating between the D1 and the D2. Here is my reason breakdown: D1: better for me because it's more forgiving (I have a relatively high handicap, but am working hard with lessons) less spin lower launch D2: better because of its deep face potential workability as my handicap gets better will be more useful What I seek from a driver is reasonable forgiveness without sacrificing distance (currently hit avg.280), low to mid launch with little spin and a deep face. I will be getting a low/mid launch shaft (Blueboard 73 stiff or Pro V2 75 stiff). Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I'm guessing there will be a need for multiple answers for many people. Wow you are either watching golf or playing golf - lucky man!
  10. Anyone else have their TV set to broadcast TGC when they turn it on? Up till last year mine was set to Food TV, but with my recent addiction to golf I have set it to the TGC. Most of the time I will just turn the TV and just have it playing in the background. I was wondering if anyone else showed this type of behavior. Perhaps his behavior will not be allowed of married men by their counterparts.
  11. Joined while you were gone but welcome back!
  12. I usually check out the reviews at golfsmith.com (out of the same model usually the ones that sell more will have a good amount of reviews - for instance if there is a wood with a graphite or steel shaft options you will find most of the reviews under the graphite shaft) golf.com (they have categorical comparisons and reviews) and golftipsmag.com (they have info on pretty much any type of equipment, but as you said it's mostly the positive stuff). probably the best way is to go to the local shop and try stuff out...
  13. I was recommended to get a driver 0.5" shorter. Does this mean I should do this for my irons as well? There was no information specified about irons so I am wondering
  14. hehe we have a case in point actually totally agree about the humidity. Dry heat is fine but humidity adds to the hot factor and the icky factor.
  15. The players were sweating profusely during the final round of the AT&T; National - I would say whatever temperature it was that day and add maybe 3 or 4 degrees Celsius and the game might be more an endurance game than enjoyable. For the golf crazy, I'm sure their threshold for temperature will e much higher.
  16. Any opinions? So for stiffness I will go with S. The biggest difference on paper for the UST V2 and the Blueboard is price (blue board is $225!) I am guessing the UST will be more than suffice and probably a better launch characteristic for me (higher). I am still trying to decide on the club head and am considering the Titleist 907 D1. Would this be a bad choice for me? Thanks in advance for any help.
  17. Welcome. Wow competitive play already at the age of 14. Are you planning to go pro?
  18. K.J Choi had a magnificent tournament this past weekend and is now ranked #4 in the FEDEX standings. Woohoo, I'm quickly becoming a big fan of his stoic and competitive game. Hope he wins many more!
  19. not sure what you mean by OP. yeah I meant the leading edge. I've noticed this on my father's clubs(don't know the model) and also on the 755.
  20. Just got fitted earlier this evening. Here are the recommended specs for my driver. club length: 44.5" swing weight: D3 cpm: at least 265
  21. This is a pretty late reply, but can be used as a reference for anyone coing to Korea to play golf in the future. Golf in Korea is viewed as a relatively high end luxury sport (more so than other countries) and it will be hard if not impossible to find a tee time for $15 - $20 USD that we all enjoy stateside. Most club require membership but there are public courses, which are still pretty hefty in price, that are available on a first book first serve basis. If you are able to enjoy golf during the week during non-peak hours I would definitely recommend OAK VALLEY (usuall tee time price is around $90 but there is a discount for weekdays and early birds). The scenery at this course is amazing and the course is pretty decent. Actually I think there are more than 1 public courses at this resort. Also for Korea keep in mind that most courses require mandatory caddies - for the sake of preventing slow play and damage of the course. This will add another $50 to your bill. Yes, golf in Korea is expensive! I can try to give more details if anyone else is interested in playing a round of golf here. I don't get out too much myself.
  22. My father swears by Titleist and I totally understand why. But to each his own and as much as I would love to use Titleist products, I feel that at address the iron's sole looks "funny" to me. Almost curvy and bent. I currently use Ping's irons and am looking to switch to Nike's CCI forged or Callaway's X-Forged. Does anyone else notice this about Titleist irons?
  23. I must also agree that Shrek 3 was lame. There are funny moments but the sum of the parts is somehow less than one.
  24. In Korea, where they have a mandatory caddy tag along, they will "report" you to the clubhouse if you delay play. This can result in the manager coming around and "asking/demanding" that you leave the course. And of course you will not be allowed to return to the course for a certain amount if time. Although this system sounds harsh, it does require that people gain a certain aptitude to their shots before venturing out onto the golf course.
  25. Hi all, Have been an extremely casually golfer for about 15 years (ages 10-25) and have recently realized the multifaceted merits of the game. I will getting fitted for the first time later today. Do most fitters just spoon feed you all the information you need? I ask this because I am in Seoul, Korea at the moment and I would not place as much trust in the fitters here as much as I would for fitters stateside. I am looking to get fitted for my driver and irons and putter. Should I bother with woods? They charge separately for driver, woods, irons and putters (actually putters are done for free). The information I am looking to get is shaft flex, torsion specs, club length, lie and bounce specs etc. I am guessing they will print out my specs for me on a sheet to take home, but I just do not want to walk away feeling "shafted," although I could always call them up to give me any additional information. Look forward to more participation in this forum - thanks to erik for providing a great forum and looking forward to interacting with all other members.
