my objective at that point would be take a smooth swing and try now to dig down and risk stubbing it. just sweep the ground and get the ball on the green. -matt

Like it says which do you think is the harder part of putting. Finding and picking the correct line or making a good stroke. I think for me right now making a good stroke is harder. -matt

first thing you should do is get fitted for a shaft. They should check not only ss but tempo as well. john daly's shaft are more flexible than nick price's shafts so swing speed is not the only deciding factor. shaft weight and torque are bigger contributing factors than flex alone. -matt

Do you ever wear a red shirt and black pants to play?
thumper07 replied to titaniummd's topic in Golf Talk
I have worn red(nike dri fit)/black but i like the black hat, shoes, pants with any colored shirt. I actually like my blue underarmor shirt i have the most but some people have told me your not supposed to wear black and blue. I also believe looking good on the course has alot to do with building confidence. -matt -
I am 23 and last year my SS was about 95-100. I was a 10capp so i thought i had a decent swing. I took one lesson to get some help laying a foundation and have been working on swing mechanics and fundementals without even thinking of speed and now i'm seeing upwards of 110-112 with a 3 wood and i feel like im swinging easier. Proper mechanics are way more important than age, body type, physical strength. Work on your swing and speed will come. -matt

i do feel i swing fairly hard, i used to have a problem with balance but not as bad now. do you guys think if i lag more and use more hands i can swing easier as far as throwing my weight around or will i have more control swinging with my body more? -matt

What are your strategies for Par 3s?
thumper07 replied to titaniummd's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i like to work my shots on par 3's. if the pin is on the right i aim center and try to play a cut if pin left i play the draw. if center wierdly enough i try to play with trajectory. if i stop trying to be cute id prolly make alot more pars. -matt -
What are your strategies for Par 5s?
thumper07 replied to titaniummd's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It depends on the hole. Anything under 530yds i will go for in two depending if the fairway allows me to take driver off the tee. Longer holes or holes that have sharp dog legs or hazards off the tee i will always try to lay up to 110-115 perfect 52*. Depending on course i have played driver-7 iron and other i have had to play 5i-5i-8i. -
here are some more recent videos taken today. i'm actually hitting balls so bring on the critics! i am open to any help.

you sound like me, i got my s59 about 5 months ago and i absolutely love them, but my game is just now getting back to where it was when i had my i3's. I love the look and feel of them but i like looking at my scores in the 70's more. if anyone tells you blades are easy they are lying, i dont think there is a golfer out there that wouldn't play them if they are so easy to hit. i am a firm believer that blades(players irons) do not make you a better player. if i put on a racing helmet am i jeff gordon? NO. just be prepared for your game you get worse. If you hit 14/18 gir with your irons now then i would say you would go to 10-11 gir just based on the diffuculty difference between the two. and also if i were you i would learn how to hit a driver if you want your scores to come down. but i have ping i5's on the way, would you be interested in my s59's, 5-pw. prolly sell them for like $185 plus shipping. they are in good shape. very good grooves. -matt

problem hooking the ball once in a while.
thumper07 replied to pshizz's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i'd say it's definately a swing issue and not equipment because your said it only only happens once in a while and not all the time. without video it will be hard to accurately diagnose. -matt -
here's what used to happen when i would swing a golf club. not real pretty but it's what i knew since i was ten with no proper intruction, and i was fairly effective with it. here's what i have now. what i do is go to the range and hit some balls, video my swing and compare to youtube to either tiger, AK, or trevor immelman's swing. then come home and realize i wasn't even close so i do it again and again and again for the last couple of months and this is what i have. i'm just trying to copy what they are doing. i know its not a duplicate for sure but my ball striking has improved dramatically, in distance and accuracy. Then only thing i feel when i swing is a turn away and a turn through. i know i still have a little slide foward at start of downswing but not as bad as it was. but just let me know in general if you guys see something i should be working on that i'm not seeing. Thanks

Awkward advice from my teaching pro?
thumper07 replied to MCFung's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
it sounds like he is trying to teach your left arm to lead which all the fundementals tell you it should. also a proper fundemenal release of the club head is the right forearm roling over the left with soft wrists just letting it go down the line. you dont need strong wrists to swing this way, you need to get the feel of using your big mussels to release the club. no good player i have ever talked to thinks about how much lag they create, lag is just a by-product of a good turn and too is a good release. all i have worked on the last couple months is a turn and my ball striking has gotten so much better. -matt -
I would watch buying from rock bottom golf because they do not guarentee authenticity -matt

CNC Milled Vs. Elastomere face insert on putters
thumper07 replied to brandon_mcg's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
its mainly preference, steel face putters typically have more feel while inserts tend to feel soft and numb. -matt -
I went there to hit the i10, i have the s59 but am looking for more forgiveness as i dont play as much as i used too. I then saw the s57 sitting there all pretty and asked if i could hit it. they had x100 in them which is similar to the s300 i play now. As far as head size goes all three s59, i10, and the s57 are all similar. Maybe the s57 being a touch smaller, definately cleaner and best looking of the 3. Definately felt best of the 3. I i10 and s59 and like duplicates, if you were blindfolded it would be hard to tell them apart. The s57 was suprisingly forgiving for how it looks especially at adress. The others may have only been a touch more forgiving. Ball flight was also alittle lower than my 59's. all in all i think they are very nice irons but ping definately screwed up because there really isn't that much difference between i10 and s57. should have stuck with the idea of the i5 especially if you going to have 4 irons out on the market. one of them should be labeled for the midhandicapper. unfortanetly i'm not the best ball striker so there is no point in getting the i10 and the g10 are way too big. i may just find a set of i5(could someone supply feedback on these irons if they have hit them) and put dgs300 in them. -matt

Valid Complaint or Whining? Westwood on Weekley...
thumper07 replied to EquipmentJunkie's topic in Tour Talk
i dont remember the match or the hole, but he walked from his tee shot that was 128yds from the green all the way to the green inspected the green and walked all the way back when it wasn't even his turn to hit. i think it was at the accenture match play in 05 or something. but they talked about it this year how bad some euros have been with slow play and other gamemanship issues. i know you are from ireland so you have a right to pissed but my opnion is hes an *******. -matt -
