I also walk because of high school golf. Our home course was an Arnold Palmer course in Michigan that was mandatory carts. It was such a long walk between some holes. But I do ride when I play with certain friends that like to drink beer and golf. Cause who wants to carry the beer, its just too much weight.....lol

Peo I agree. The nicer the course normally the better kept by the players, at least in my experience. People not fixing ball marks, dragging feet, throwing the flag stick down on the green and not off bothers me so much. I got into golf from being a caddie at a local country club and learned etiquette at a young age. Its a part of the game that everyone should respect imo.

lol.....i was gonna say, 75 is pretty good for anyone on 18....then i read on

Need new ball advice
Wallstreet replied to vikramraju's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Best balls out there by far! Pro V's are nice but way overpriced and they only last a hole or two before they start getting scuffed up. I play the Bridgestone e6's and they hold up better than any other ball i have played. -
Hell YES!!! I love tiger, i miss watching him play. Golf just isn't the same without him

Lowest Posted Score You Have Seen in a Scramble
Wallstreet replied to trackster's topic in Golf Talk
wow 23 under!?!?!!?! I was on a team that shot 18 under. The other 3 guys were friends from my high school golf team, 5 years later 2 of them played college golf and all of us hit the ball long. But 23 under is absolutely crazy. The only way I can see this if there were 4 or 5 par 4's with yardages under 330 yards. And one of the 4 hits it dead straight on the green and they make some eagles on these holes. It is possible but VERY unlikely. If they were all scratch golfers and they all hit the ball consistently 300 I could see it. To the OP.....in a 5 man scramble I could see it but they all had to be scratch or close. With 5 scratch players you have to believe they birdie every hole at worst. Its unlikely but I don;'t know who would be so bold as to cheat that bad. Personally I hate if I win a scramble, mainly because there is so much flat out cheating in scrambles that no one believes you if you play well. When i played on the team that shot 18 under, we actually got booed by a few people when we went up to get our trophy and prize. I just assume get drunk and have fun then win cause I don't want to hear it. -
Congratulations! The first one is always great. Not sure about anyone else. But actually remember my first eagle. I was 13 playing a very short par 4 (like 290 from the whites). hit driver then pitching wedge to the right edge of the green, trickled downhill to the left and rolled in. I was jumpin up and down like an idiot kid. Still remember it. Congrats man!

I was really just jokin' around. You are probably right. I just think it could be possible.

I still would like to see whole hole matches for most of the show. I noticed that they drive their carts to their shots now on whole hole matches. If they were to just walk it would give camera crews much more time to get set up for every angle of every shot.

I've got the U.S. They have been playing pretty good.

Why do you gotta steal his thunder!?!?! lol. I wouldn't doubt it if he cracked the flagstick. The pop of fiberglass cracking probably is pretty loud.

I've played nike irons for quite a while and love them. I would go with the Nike's personally. I've had three different sets, nike forged pro combo, nike forged blades and then nike VR forged blades and I loved them all. But that is just one man's opinion. I would go to a golf shop with a range and try out clubs from each set and see what feels best for you

Rory, Lee or luke. I would like to see Rory win again. I love his swing.

As some have said already #1 course in Michigan is Arcadia Bluffs. Most beautiful course I have ever played. Eagle Eye near East Lansing is amazing. Devil's Ridge in Oxford is great. On some of the holes you can see miles in every direction and all you see is trees. Looks close to an up north course. But one that 8/10 never have heard of, even people who live in Brighton, its called Huntmore Golf Club. It's tucked away off Old us-23 in Brighton. It used to be called the golf club of michigan back in 2001 i think (i had a tournament there in high school). Absolutely great course. Plays over 7200 from the tips and is very well kept and picturesque. And the rates are much less than the majority of nice courses in southeast Michigan. Its very close to my work so I try to play it as much as I can.

Man this is a long thread. I can only really speak from my own experience but I score way better with more GIR then with more up and downs. It is way easier to 2 putt on average than chip and one putt. Short game is very important, but I think hitting greens in regulation are much more important. If you could put it on the green 18 out of 18 times, you would most likely shoot par or better even with a less than average short game. But if you went 0/18 GIR, you would probably shoot 5+ over with the best short game. Mainly because you probably wouldn't chip more than one or two in for birdie. The bottom line for me is that two putting is way easier than a chip and a putt no matter what skill level you have. I don't really see the argument.

yea just be patient. It looks like the pro is helping with instruction. Most CC's have pro's that will do "on course" instruction. That will definitely help, because he will be able to see what you actually do on the course and help you learn to calm down after bad shots.

haha very nice. Congrats on the hole in one!

I play in a league with about 50 guys with varying handicaps ranging from scratch to 30. There are probably 5 guys (including myself) that average their drives 300+ yards. I'm only 5'9" 185 pounds, but i do have quite a fast swing speed and i am the most confident with my driver out of any club in my bag. But I don't find it that hard pressed to think that a lot of guys on here can consistently hit the ball 300. 10% of my league does and this website has people all over the country so I'm sure quite a few of you guys hit the ball that far. I don't find it that hard to believe with the advancement in drivers, balls and shafts. 4 years ago i used to average about 260 yards off the tee. I hit the ball VERY high into the air with a stock stiff flex shaft. I mean i got backspin on some drives. So i went to a dicks sporting goods and asked the pro what i needed to do to get my trajectory down. Well we did the whole swing speed thing and he checked my launch angle with the computer and he fitted me with a shaft that more fit my swing speed and sure enough I gained 40+ yards to my average driving distance and my launch angle went way down.

Do You Support the PGA's "Tee It Forward" Effort?
Wallstreet replied to lville lefty's topic in Golf Talk
I live in Michigan, which course was this? It must be a long busy course if they decide what tees to play. I understand and agree with the "tee it forward" idea but like some others have said score cards need to not say "ladies" or "senior" tees. That has to change everywhere. I also believe a lot of courses need to change there tee box set up. For instance, at my home course the blacks and whites are on one box, and then the reds are 30/40 yards up on its own box, and a yellow tee is another 20 or 30 yards up. I know a lot of courses are crammed for space, but in order for this to work I think the whites, reds, yellows should all be on one box, just make it a long tee box. I think this will make it more appealing for certain players to play a shorter tee. When a red tee is on another box most guys will never go up and hit from there, especially on the first tee like some have said. I think the only tee that should have its own box should be the tips. -
If you balloon the ball and that is why you lose distance it normally has nothing to do with the loft of the club. One reason is exactly what rlambrose said. And the biggest reason is the flex and kick point of your shaft. The shaft is the most important part of a driver in regards to launch degree and distance. You can have the "greatest" driver ever and have the wrong shaft and not hit it far. First of all a stiff shaft on an off the rack driver is normally a high end regular flex if you actually test it. This shaft will also have a a high kick point. When you start your downswing the shaft will flex. If the shaft has a higher kick point the head will snap forward before it gets to the ball and it will make the ball go higher in the air. So if you like the way your driver feels just take it to a golf shop and have the pro fit you for the shaft that is right for your swing speed and the launch angle that you want. This is what worked for me. I have a pretty fast swing speed, bought a driver off the rack and was skying the ball way to high and getting no roll whatsoever. I went to Dick's and had the pro fit me with a shaft better suited for my swing speed and desired launch angle and I swear I gained an average of 30 yards extra distance.

I use interlocking for everything. I tried changing my putter grip (baseball, lefty grip, overlap, etc). Some of them felt good but overall I felt that keeping a consistent grip through all my shots feels better. But this is definitely a personal preference. Like others have said I would use whatever putter grip feels best for you. Its all about personal feel.

I agree that a lot of these guys are not good. But I wish the the golf channel would do whole hole matches instead of chipping contests. Obviously it wouldn't make for good TV if they played an 18 hole round of golf. But I could be the greatest player around the green but still have a 15 handicap. Which wouldn't warrant a spot on a PGA tour event. I would rather watch them play actual whole holes all season than watch them chip and putt.
