Never had a 5-wood before November, it's saving me shots already! Off the tee it's brilliant, very consistent, long in carry and easy to hit high, low, left, right - everything. Off the deck - well it's easier than a 2iron, maybe not as easy as some hybrids from the rough but can get a great high trajectory coming into greens, long par 3's especially, nice soft landings! Great club, absolutely love it!

2,2,2 - front 9, back 9, overall. or 5 for the 18 betterball, lowest man off scratch, the rest have 3/4 the combined. For bigger comps, I don't bother really,

I like to watch both - it's great to sit down in the evening and watch the PGA tour, but the variety of courses in Europe is great - and the commentators are top notch. I'd have to prefer BBC to Sky (BBC has no ad's) but Sky is brilliant - you've got guys who've been out there and struggled on the European Tour when it wasn't so prestige and knowledgable guys who love their job.

Titleist 909 - what shaft do you have?
hawkeye replied to hawkeye's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
just thought i'd get some information from fellow golfers. Don't think handicap has much to do with it. Hopefully the guys at Titleist can fix me up with a nice club and I can lower mine. -
I'm in the market for a new driver and these babies are the best looking thing out there. I'm going to get fitted - but thought i'd get some shaft research here. Which shaft do you have and what charachteristics do they have?
-
still has 36 holes to play! but he's 9 shots ahead of 10th spot, so should be a comfortable final 2 rounds. wow! what a scorecard!
-
I hit the ball very high - I have a very steep angle of attack. It's something i'm trying to change - There are times I need to hit the ball low, especially with the driver into the wind. I changed the 3wood and 5wood and now the ball goes lower, might change my iron shafts in the new year. Deffo going to get fitted for a driver - get the right shaft for me.

the frost hasn't gone - another armchair afternoon watching the golf is on the cards. i'm playing a winter league, best 5/9 scores, winner gets 200 Euro, about 250 dollars. 2 weeks have been cancelled because of frost. 2 more weeks left, a couple of good scores to my handicap and i'll be in the running. More frost and I will get nothing! Grrrrrrrrrrr

Golf psychology lesson/clinic. I spent 100 EUR on one and the results so far have been amazing. Better than any club could have done. If I had 150 now, i'd spend it on a new bag or shoes.

Just worked a 60+ hour week, looking forward to a couple of weekend games of golf, relax, get some fresh air, experiment with the new clubs - and unfortunately the weather has got the better of us Irish golfers... Possibly the nicest day of the year - clear blue skies, sunshine, and tonnes of FROST! I guess the 12 months of golf requires a better climate... How do you guys in the snow covered places cope!? i'm going mad!

Anyone following the Nedbank? Not too exciting - Stenson is miles ahead. I love this course - though i don't fancy that rough? http://www.nedbankgolfchallenge.com/

Upgraded a good few things at the end of 08 for the 09 season and onwards. T3 and T5 woods - loving them right now, the 5 wood especially. 54 and 58 wedges - more forgiving than the Vokeys, getting very consistent with them, and the 54 comes with 10* bounce as opposed to my Vokey which was 14* - it restricted me. Putter - very nice putter, really liking the natural feel to it. Great on fast and slow greens. Puma shoes - got these for the range and to stick in the back of the car on a permanent basis. Really comfortable. Look great too.

The 2 fairway woods in the bag (bought last month) are EUR 249 (Tour Launch seems to warrant a 25% price increase) But the shop had the High Launch barcodes on the shaft - EUR 199. So the 2 woods should have cost me EUR 498 but only cost EUR 398. After trading in my old clubs and using some vouchers earned during the summer - I only spent EUR 86. Not a bad day at the office! Delighted with the results so far!

would hit a couple each round, but most recently, maybe a 7 iron punch shot to the index 4, 450 yard par 4, left to right wind, pin was 15 on, 7 from the right. I hit it 13 on, 10 from the left, pure stike out of the centre, it rolled a few feet before checking up, leaving a 10 footer which was knocked in for birdie, bringing me back to 2 under. The drive was also pured - smack down the left half of the fairway, not taking on too much of the dogleg, but safely away from the bunkers. It's gone in my "great shot log" which i started recently.

Congrats! I had a 70 at the weekend, first time breaking par (on a 6800 course, Standard Scratch 74) - so i know how you feel buddy! Congrats.

Once a year, we play a 3 club comp, on a 9 hole course, with my local pub society. it's good fun, i'll be bringing a 5 wood, 8 iron and putter this December.

Big fan of Jeev Milka - watched him at the European Open last year for 9 holes, was bombing it - he hits the ball some thump! It's not pretty to watch but it's effective. I admire it.
-
Shot low lowest ever today, a 2 under 70, course was a wet 6,800 yards. 6 birdies 4 bogeys 1 ball Won the money - 65 euro from 12 other lads (about 80 dollars)
-
mallet- with blades, my eyes sometimes follow the club to make sure it's square at impact - pretty silly - and with the mallet i seem to be able to hit it straighter more often, leading to more putts holed.

Which wedges should I give a shot?
hawkeye replied to Sherlockian's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ping Tour-W are the best all-round performing wedges i've played. I would recommend them - they have made the short game easier for me. The Vokeys were more difficult to hit. -
Favorite fairway wood? (fixed error)
hawkeye replied to Timothy D Watson's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I voted Taylormade Burner 2008 Tour Launch. I have a couple of them (14.5 and 17.5) - the 5 wood has immediately become my favourite club in the bag, my new "go to club" and great from anywhere. I love the trajectory i get (60 gram shaft, a touch lighter than the stock shaft). I get nice run on the ball too (never did before). The 3 wood is taking a little longer to get used to, but when I make a connection it goes a good 260 in the air plus run if conditions allow, outdriving my jealous playing partners drive with a driver! I've lost a couple low and right but they were weak shots in high wind. This club might even replace the driver. I can see myself using it every hole at my home course off the tee. -
The lifespan of a vokey spin milled
hawkeye replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i had 2 chrome, after less than a year they were totalled - i kept them for another 6 months and they were worthless then. So i'd say 1 year - given the amount I play - twice a week on average, plus practice -
Carry bags...why is yours the best?
hawkeye replied to Doctorfro's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
+1 for the Ping Hoofer Vantage. The stand is the best i've used - the hoofer system reallly is the best (all previous bags got less abuse and broke - the Ping is still going strong!) I've used lighter and ones with more pockets - but this bag does everything I need it do to. -
Anyone else revamping the bag for the off season?
hawkeye replied to Laxplayer201092's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
New wedges (Ping Tour W 54 and 58) New woods (TM Burner T3 and T5 which i love) New putter (Ping Piper) Picked up a new pair of Puma shoes to wear at the range during the winter on eBay and looking to get a bag of 1000 tee's too maybe. I've never changed so many clubs in such a short space of time and it cost me very little (had vouchers & trade ins) so thought might as well!
