My impression was that he said that after being criticized for not showing up. A lot of media and players were saying he should have been there but he had a 3 year contract to play in Asian which he chose to honor. I think he meant that if people wanted to claim that it was so important for him to be there, then they should make sure he's not scheduled to appear somewhere else already.

Changing the length of the club does nothing to the lie angle of that club. It's a measurement of the club, not of how you hold the club. It's probably (maybe definitely) true that your clubs will need a different lie angle depending on the length of the club.

What does offset in irons actually do?

Clones - Is there a difference?
TD22057 replied to Spectrums's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
They may also be actual name brands that failed some quality control check. I'm guessing that it's fairly easy for workers to sell them to a distributor for some $$$ on the side. -
How about a 4 wood? Easier to hit than a 3 wood, longer than a hybrid. I picked up my fusion 4W from the Callaway pre-owned web site for a pretty good price. It's a great club and much easier to hit than my old 3W.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. Gotta go - the police just came by and our neighborhood is being evacuated right now. Southern California wild fires on the loose again...

I have one and I'd buy it again given the option. I'd say it works as they advertise it. There's plenty of give on each shot and I can't see any wear at all after 3 months of use. I've actually thought about lugging mine (3x5) to the range with me a few times after hitting off some crappy range mats. You can put a tee in it but the tee moves enough after a hit that it's a little annoying. I picked up a set of these rubber tee holders: http://www.hobokengolf.com/zc/index....roducts_id=639 which are great to use at home or at the range.

I'm trying to get back into an exercise program again and figured I may as well do something that will also help my golf game. What I'd really like to find is a good DVD or book that goes through a general golf related workout. I've found a bunch of individual exercises on the web but I'm fairly lazy (hence the need to exercise more) so it would be nice if I could just have one source that contains a reasonable program of strength, balance, and flexibility training. If you have source's you've used in the past - point me at them. Thanks!

I'd say you need to get fitted for the FT-i (and ANY driver). Your loss of distance could be from the wrong shaft (flex, spin, launch angle, etc). After I went to the FT-i, my longest drives are definitely shorter by 5-10 yards. BUT - my average drive is definitely longer and straighter. I think comparing driver distances is very difficult for most people since it's easy to just remember your best hits (or mis-estimate distances) and so it's hard to know your average drive. I started GPS'ing all my drives earlier this year and it was really an eye opener what I was doing on average (i.e. shorter than I thought).

Golf GPS technology... need opinions
TD22057 replied to SubPar's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
While this was true some time ago, it's not true now. Selective availability (SA) (the signal degredation you're talking about) was turned OFF in 2000, not on. And - the military has announced that future satellites won't even include the capability to activate SA any more. GPS w/ WAAS (which is available across the continentical US), is just fine for golfing. It provides ~ 1m accuracy more than 95% of the time. GPS has nothing to do w/ sniping unless we're suddenly shooting people who never actually move. -

My understanding was that differential GPS isn't being used very much for golf courses (at least in the US). Most good receivers (I know SkyCaddie can at least) utilize the wide area augmentation system for improved accuracy. There's a pretty good write up of it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS_WAAS -

That's a new one. The satellites are stationary? Right... I'd say find a new support guy. The Earth is rotating, the satellite are moving, you're moving (maybe) so you'll never have a constant geometry or signal path. In general, you should get better results from standing still because the information in the measurements can accumulate in the filter. If a receiver's filter and noise modelling isn't done well, you could see a drifting of the solution. FYI my SkyCaddie usually moves by 1-2 yards after coming to a stop but then stays on the same number. -
I used some blue painters tape, a plastic bag for masking, and some red spray paint. Worked great. Having the line made it easier for me to hit the center of the putter as it gave me a specific point to focus on contacting the ball with. (Of course I've since switched back to a white steel #1 putter...)

It is on Dish and should be on directv next month some time.
-
It's on the golf channel which is an HD channel. It looks far worse than just a regular SD channel IMO.
-
You think that's bad - try watching LPGA coverage in HD. Most of the time it looks like some 12 year old kid shot it w/ his cell phone.

When I first saw it, I thought he was slamming the putter down. My thinking was that if you felt that he could try to hit the ball and miss it, you also have to allow that maybe he was trying to hit the ground further back and missed that spot as well. On the other hand, if you're slamming your club down, it should come straight down and on the replay it looked like his club was moving forward which would indicate an attempted stroke. On the other hand, I'd say the replay wasn't completely conclusive as to whether or not the putter was really moving forward so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand (which hand are we back to now?), I doubt he would slam the putter down and then tap in all while walking towards the ball. If he had stopped walking, then slammed the putter, then tapped in I'd be more inclined to believe him.

Hitting mat suggestions please
TD22057 replied to Surly Bastage's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use a mat from: http://www.realfeelgolfmats.com/ I don't particularly like their web site but I'd say it does work as advertised. They have full mats and hitting strips (I have a full mat). It's much nicer than any driving range mat I've evey seen. -
Teeing the ball low makes it more straight?
TD22057 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
There was an article in one of the golf magazines last month where they did a test w/ a variety of handicap's and tee heights. For all the handicap groups (I think it was 0-10, 11-20, 20+), teeing the ball higher gave more carry, more total distance, and less dispersion (straighter). They tested 3 tee heights - I forget what the low one was. The middle one had the middle of the ball even w/ the top of the driver. The high one had the something like the top 3/4 of the ball above the top of the driver. (This is all from memory so don't quote me on the details...) -
Titleist 755 vs Taylormade r7 tp
TD22057 replied to oneil003's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
See sig... The 755 are fabulous looking clubs IMHO. -
One thing I've found that really helps my speed control is to pace off every putt. After I do this, I start telling myself data about the putt in my head over and over again while I take my practice strokes. Things like "23 feet, a little uphill, into the grain, 23 feet, a little uphill, etc, etc". It sounds kinda silly to explain it but it has really helped my distance control. I think it's a kind of feedback loop - over time my subconscious seems to remember what each length of putt feels like and my distance control has improved a ton since the beginning of the year.

What's your favorite/most useful swing drill?
TD22057 replied to TD22057's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Could you provide a little more detail on these? Thanks! -
I agree. If you're better than the average (or just more consistent), play w/o handicaps. You'll get killed otherwise. My foursome has adopted an "adjusted" skins game where we give skins for making a par or better when you hit the green in regulation in addition to the normal skins. This lets the better players still earn one skin per hole for the pars they make. For my group (scratch, 13, 15, 18), this has made things a lot more competitive.

recovering from sprained wrist
TD22057 replied to doublesuited77's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Good luck. I strained the tendons in my right wrist and thumb about 7 weeks ago and they're still not healed. I took 3 weeks off then tried playing again 2 weeks in a row which only served to re-injure it. I'm now resigned to resting my hand for as long as it takes - 2 weeks into my new "down time" and it's still only marginally better. Been to the doctor several times to check for breaks, tears, etc and they said the only thing I can do is rest it. Hopefully you're injury will heal faster then mine has. -
What's your favorite/most useful swing drill?
TD22057 posted a topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The title says it all - I'd like to hear your most effective swing drill(s). Here one to start: Problem: a back swing that's too flat. For me this was from flipping my hands right at the take away and pulling the club back way too much inside. The drill: put your butt against a wall (I used a stone wall outside our house and an old 7 iron) and take your normal back swing. SMACK (hence the need for an old club). Practice taking the club straight back until your don't hit the wall. I found that standing about 1-2" from the wall and making about a 1/2 speed backswing worked great. I did this one about 1500 times and it has completely fixed my swing plane problems. I think the 1/2 speed motion also helped my tempo (which is normally too quick).
