Bridgestone Treosoft
realed replied to Hoselrockets's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I think the Treosoft's are about $20 and then there are the new B330-RX for about $40. -
Drills for straight take off/flight
realed replied to Rugger's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Strengthening your grip does not mean to grip it tighter. It means to adjust it to the right (for a right-hander) so you will see more knuckles on your left hand. -

How do you stop "over thinking" it?
realed replied to slinkee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have enjoyed reading this thread and will incorporate a lot of the advices given here. I too have the same problems as the OP. I am a touring pro on the range and can't seem to bring that confidence over to the course - drives me nuts :P -
I love the feel and forgiveness of the AP2s (PX5.5), but have been disappointed in my ball flight after purchasing a used set of MP-33s (Rifle 6.5) and comparing the two. I can definitely get the longer irons to go higher with the AP2s. Is it worth the hassle to just get these clubs reshafted? It feels like I am just lobbing balls up in the air with my AP2s. Sorry to be off topic a bit. Back on topic...AP2 irons are great!

Congrats to all! Your golf game does take a hit, but it is well worth it. This is my first year back playing after a year layoff with my soon to be 2 year old son. I expect another year layoff once my second comes later this month. I have about 2 weeks left to reach my goal of breaking 85, which I havent done since 2005. I guess I will be trying to reach this goal again in 2010.

Yeah, although weird...I would agree and recommend changing socks along with some foot powder. That's what we did in the army on those long roadmarches. I feel your pain.

I used to have an overswinging problem and it looked similar to yours in your avatar. I am actually impressed that your clubhead goes that far. My swing is more compact now and I actually just get short of parallel now at top. My problem was (and it may be the same for you) that I let my hips turn too much with my backswing (almost a sway to the point of a reverse pivot). Try focusing on staying a bit centered on the ball where your head doesn't move too far back and focus on turning against your hips (you should feel tons of tension in your right leg) - you shouldn't be able to over swing this way. Once I fixed my overswing problem, I was able to get more distance out of my swings with all the torque i was creating. Hope this makes sense. I couldn't even swing past parallel now unless I let my hips move with my backswing.

Help others by posting YOUR MAGIC MOVE
realed replied to Stacey_E's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I initiate my swing by cocking my wrists and keep my swing wide on the takeaway with minimal movement in the hips. If I think about doing this before I swing, I stay pretty consistent not allowing myself to get lazy during a round where I end up just swinging more with my arms than with a full shoulder turn. -
I saw it...359 and all he got out of it was a par. Anyways, I do agree with all those stating that it is too early to be labeling him as the next Tiger or even as a huge contender. Even Anthony Kim wasn't cocky enough to state that. I believe in one of his interviews he said he needed to win 13 more majors to start worrying Tiger. He is fun to watch and it should be interesting to see him play at the British.

I agree with CPHoya. This kid definitely has a swagger about him that I enjoy watching - and he has the game to back it up. I followed him on Thursday (I like the smaller crowds) and enjoyed watching him around the greens. This kid was having fun out there and not timid with any of his shots (Saw him go for it on the Par 5 9th hole in two with his hybrid while everyone else in his group including JB Holmes was laying up) This kid has confidence. I hope he keeps it up and wins a couple of more this year.

Does anyone highly recommend this book? I bought Pelz's Putting Bible 2 weeks ago and read 75% of it and am done with it- IMO, a total waste of my time and money. I don't think I want to putt like Perfy :) It felt very awkward.

Best reasonably-priced golf ball?
realed replied to clubmaker15's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would go to your local Target or Wal-mart and pick up some Precept U-Tri Tours. I bought about 5 boxes on sale for 19.99 each. I think they usually go for about 23 bucks though. It's a 3 piece and plays very well for the price. -
Do you have any golf balls that you will never use?
realed replied to GaijinGolfer's topic in The Grill Room
I got a box of Disney golf balls with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy logos that my sister-n-law got for me when she visited Disney World. There is no way I am gonna be caught hitting those. I also have a bunch of signed golf balls from the 2005 LPGA U.S. Women's Open from Cherry Hills...probably won't hit those either for a different reason. -
I played my first round of golf this year last week and shot a 93 with 40 putts, so I am gonna say putting. It was a frustrating day. I also ended up buying Pelz's Putting Bible b/c of it.

I got the Adidas Powerbands and will have to agree that they are very comfortable and I feel very stable in them.

I just had this discussion with golf_junkie who asked me if I was pushing with the Rifle 6.5 - which I am not. I have had no problems with that shaft although I am pulling my AP2s a bit, which has me concerned about my shaft fitting. I personally need to get my swing checked because just a month ago I was playing Ping I3+ with R300 (my first set), got fitted for the AP2s with Project X 5.5, and have had no problems hitting the MP-33 with the Rifle 6.5. I have been a slow swinger with little distance for the 4 years I have been playing this game. I played about 36 holes a week my first year. Then not so much the next 2 years due to other priorities (kid), but now I am getting back into it and have noticed significant changes/improvements in my swing (better lag and turn of shoulders)...all in all I am confused ( I was hitting 6- iron to 150yds my first year, but am reaching it with an 8-iron now even with the MP-33s), so may not be much help in telling the differences as I am trying to figure them out.

How Many Sets of Irons Do You Have? What Are They?

1. Ping I3+ (4-UW) 2. Titleist AP2 (3-PW) 3. Mizuno MP-33 (2-PW) -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
realed replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Used MP33s (2-PW) for $150. -
I just bought a used set (2-PW) for $150 at my local Golf Galaxy today. It was in incredible condition, and I could not pass even though I had just bought the AP2s several weeks ago. I just hit these at the range and they felt so good - I thought I would just practice with these since they were supposed to be less forgiving, but now am debating whether these should go in the bag. Argh! I am also confused with shaft selections now - my AP2s were fitted to PX 5.5 and these are Rifle 6.5 - what is supposed to be the difference - I couldn't tell although I did hit the 33s a lot higher (may be due to loft?) Anyways, enough with the rambling - probably for a diferent thread.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
realed replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I was in Target yesterday and bought 4 boxes of Precept U-Tri Tours, but during my last trip to a real golf store I ended up buying Titleist AP2s and an Ogio Grom Bag to replace my Ping I3+ and Hoofer bag. -
My major fallback flaw has to do with bringing my club way inside the target line on my backswing. I end up rerouting my club and end up with an outside/in swing making me look like i have never played golf before. When this occurs I can usually fix it by (this might sound bad) taking my eye off the ball for a split second to check on my backswing to ensure my club is still on line.

I was an armor captain and just got out of the US Army back in July 2005. I am now a consultant for BearingPoint....and no, Phil Mickelson is not my favorite golfer.

This was my second season of playing golf as well. My goal last year was to break 100 which I was able to accomplish after playing for 5 months. My goals this year were to: 1) Break 90 2) Putt Better (Try to 2 putt or every hole) 3) Post consistent scores 1) I was able to break 90 two months into the season after taking a couple lessons which consisted of developing a new repeatable swing...lowest score so far has been an 84 and have broke 90 over ten times. 2) Realized my putting was horrible so I spent at least an hour a week practicing 3, 5, 10 footers, and some lag putting. Putting has improved tremendously but still need work. 3 putts occur less often and have not 4 putted once since June. 3) At the beginning of the season was scoring in the upper 90s on average but now have been posting scores in the upper 80s/ lower 90s. I have realized that my GIR % is really low even when i am in the fairway 70% of the time. I already know what my new goal is for the next year. I need to work on finding the green more often. My distance off the tee aint much usually around 230 so I'm always pulling out a longer iron for my approach.
